Update: As of June 8th, Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin’s Website now states the resort will remain closed through July 29th, 2020.
Disney World has just dropped SO much resort news, our heads are still spinning a bit.
On top of new dining stipulations at the resorts and the virtual chat option on My Disney Experience for guests, stays at the hotels are about to see some huge changes when they re-open. But if you don’t currently have a hotel reservation, Disney World Resort currently isn’t accepting new ones.
At this time, Disney World is focusing on guests who already have reservations and has temporarily halted new bookings. These guests will be given priority access to the new theme park reservation system, and we filled you in on the fact that Disney’s Swan and Dolphin and Shades of Green Resorts would be included in that set group.
Even though Disney will not be allowing guests to make new reservations at its hotels during this time, we did find a way you can still stay on property! Since the Swan and Dolphin Resorts are Sheraton hotels and partners with Disney, you can still book those resorts through Marriott’s website!
The Swan and Dolphin’s website currently list their closure as lasting through July 5th, but it IS possible to book a stay starting on July 1st. And both the Swan and Dolphin Resorts show booking windows throughout Disney World’s theme parks re-opening on July 11th and July 15th.
Availability may change depending on which room you choose to stay in at the resorts. Right now, there are multiple levels of rooms listed for booking.
If you book a room at either the Swan or Dolphin Resort, you can copy the confirmation number and link into the hotel reservation section on My Disney Experience.
For those that don’t have an existing hotel reservation, and want to book at Disney World for when the parks re-open, booking through the Marriott directly will still give you access to the perks of on-site guests, including first access to the new theme park reservation system. However, keep in mind that availability could always change and staying on property does NOT guarantee theme park admission. As Disney starts to roll out more information about resort reservations and the parks, we’ll continue to keep you updated!

We have a reservation for June 29th at Coranado Springs (Not DVC side).
I assume we would have to pay the upgraded room cost if we changed to one of the open resorts.
If so, I guess we’re just going to cancel.

I’m a little concerned that your statement about those with current reservations would have priority access to the new reservation system when it comes up. I am one of those with a reservation who just went through the process or trying to rebook. While I appreciate this ability, they are only trying to rebook you into the specific and limited DVC rooms. So you don’t get to rebook into the main part of the resort rooms or even what you originally booked for. This included looking at July or even further out, only DVC rooms. My initial cast member and others I called about my reservation all indicated the same and no guarantee on park admission, even with the reservation system. Not happy.
DFB Sarah says
Stacy, it’s definitely a confusing time. We are hearing from readers that the rebooking is focused on DVC and Fort Wilderness Cabins. We think this is due to Disney not having yet announced a reopening date for the rest of the Resorts.
DebC says
Brandon, there is no DVC component at Coronado Springs. You might be thinking of Riviera Resort which is all DVC.

Here’s an update, straight from the source. I am a status member with Marriott, so I called and had a case opened to validate my July 15th reservation The case was referred to the case managers specifically for the Swan hotel, so this is about as definitive as it gets.
What I have been told: If you have an existing reservation, that reservation is still good and the hotel will be open. However, they are NOT taking new reservations at this time. So if you’re already in, you’re good.
DFB Sarah says
Thank you, Brian! We got this information today as well. Glad to have you confirm it with your experience as well. Have a safe trip.

Somehow my entire previously long, but detailed post was deleted. I am EXTREMELY disappointed in how Disney handled my 6/29/20 – 7/9/20 trip to celebrate my daughter’s Sweet Sixteen! Disney never reached out to us except to cancel our paid dining plan and restaurant reservations . Most of my info came from DFB. Thank you for all your efforts. After weeks of waiting and calling Disney, on Monday we finally got a cast member who was willing to try to reschedule our trip. We did not want to waste $4,000 on a diminished Disney experience at the present time, so we asked to postpone til 2/12/21. We were told: “absolutely not !” We then asked what our other options were and we were told: “none – except to cancel.” I then asked what “offerings” Disney would give us towards a future trip because of our patience, disappointment and inconvenience and I was again told: “nothing!” I have read about Disney offering upgrades, (previously) free dining plans and 35% off future resort stays. I guess this only applies to “certain” unknown Disney guests! Mickey, you let us down! My daughter’s Sweet Sixteen celebration is ruined. I can’t express how sad and disappointed we are. We had no choice, but to cancel our Disney trip and lay out more money for a shorter trip to Universal. Still waiting for our refunds. A lot of fun, time, effort and expense goes into planning for our Disney trip. I purchased several new Disney themed outfits for our trip. This trip was the light at the almost- end of the COVID-19 Pandemic, not to mention the 15+ weekly hours of OT I did to pay for this trip and having had something to look forward to. (Sorry so long. Good Health and Best Wishes to all)
