With the Disney parks reopening on July 11th, a lot of guests are looking to solidify their plans.
Select Disney Vacation Club Villas and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground are set to reopen on June 22nd. For those Disney guests with reservations between the reopening of resorts and the reopening of the parks, there are a lot of questions.
Now, Disney is reaching out to guests to help in modifying, canceling, or CONFIRMING reservations — even for those booked at closed resorts.
Disney will be reaching out to guests with resort hotel reservations with DEPARTURE dates July 11th or earlier. These guests will be asked to confirm, modify, or cancel their reservations with a response requested by June 25th.
Those who are wishing to confirm and who are booked at a hotel that is NOT opening will be moved to an open resort at no additional cost, but they CANNOT choose where they will stay.
Guests wishing to modify to a date on or after the parks open on July 11th may only move their booking to one of the announced open resorts and they WILL be responsible for the difference in price.
We know this is a crazy time and all of this information can be REALLY confusing, so if you have any questions, please let us know! Keep an eye on DFB for all of the latest updates regarding impacted reservations and the reopening of Disney World.

Do you have a reservation with a departure date prior to July 11th? Let us know in the comments!
Mary says
This is ridiculous. I’ve been waiting weeks to modify. My check in is July 7 but check out is July 13. So now I have to wait again because now they are doing it by check out date.
DFB Sarah says
Mary, we are still watching this situation. I can’t imagine how frustrated you must be.
Alex says
Hi. Before my rant I want to thank you for keeping us informed! I agree this is very frustrating, our agent has been trying to rebook us. Do you know which hotels have confirmed opening? We are eligible for the 35% discount (we rebooked once already) BUT we can only book at one of the few hotels allowed. Agent said there were 4 that have confirmed opening dates. Our trip is June 21 so if we don’t rebook soon we lose the 35%. And dont try to change hotels later we lose it then too 😫
DFB Sarah says
Alex, the only Disney Resorts that Disney has said will be officially opening on June 22 are the DVC Resorts (just the villas, not the standard rooms) and Fort Wilderness. The most recent information — in the post you commented on — is that guests with reservations that depart before July 11 who call to make modifications will be moved to one of the open Resorts with availability with no additional fees BUT won’t have a choice in which Resort it is. I hear your frustration, and I hope we all get more answers very soon!
Alex says
Ah thank you that makes sense. I don’t know much about DVC and didn’t realize the connection. I’m sure I missed it somewhere, all the info blends together after a while! Everyone’s situation is so unique they can’t have a system to fit all. But would be nice if they had like a hold on accounts until more are open, because as you know now we must cover the difference in cost (-35% discount), and we were at a Value resort so it’s a significant increase.
Thanks again for all you guys do. It’s not like we can casually ask friends for advice about this stuff, noone knows!! 🙃
DFB Sarah says
Alex, it’s definitely all blurring together, so it’s helpful when readers ask questions so I get to go back to the language and clarify as much as possible. I do think a call to Disney is worth the effort as they did say yesterday that folks with certain departure dates can be modified without added fees — presumably even from Value to a DVC villa. Keep me posted if you get some solid intel!
Alex says
Oh wow that was a good idea I got right on the phone even though they can’t modify without my travel agent. she said yes WE are responsible for the difference in cost, there are just no added fees. And she is not able to modify trips after July 11 departure.
She did say of course we can REbook again when an opening for the values is announced, but did not know if the 35% discount would apply again.
DFB Sarah says
Thanks for the update, Alex! Good luck sorting everything out. 🙂
Linda Rowe says
When should we expect to hear from Disney regarding our existing reservation? We are booked for 7/5-7/8.
DFB Sarah says
Linda, no way to know, unfortunately. Good luck!
Jan says
Thank you guys for keeping everyone in the loop. You all do such a great job and we LOVE your videos. We have a stay booked at Art of Animation August 7th-14th. If it’s still closed, will we have to pay the difference to be upgraded?
Brandon says
Again… you say
“Moved to a resort at no additional cost.”
Does that mean they are just moving your room from say Coranado Springs to one of the open resorts?
And if we paid $160/night at CS and our stay is already paid in full, that is it? We won’t have to pay any more money? No matter where they put us?
This article does not clarify this.
Michael Oppmann says
Our actual check in date is July 11th! It is a very nerve racking time. After spending a ton of money and no refund possible, I just wish that email confirming and park reserving would come!
Kathie says
I recieved the email and I called DVC to see if i could get 1 resort for my stay, 7/4-8. Cast member was great. She did remind about the parks won’t be opened while we are there, I told her we very rarely go into the parks in the summer! Summertime stays for us are relaxing times, poolside, and going to restaurants. CM put us on waitlist and this morning it came through. Disney is my Happy Place, even when I don’t go into parks, just staying at the resorts makes me Happy!
Mr.John says
I am a D V C MEMBER the villas are great ,but a lot more money $$$$. But the studio has a small refrigerator ,queen bed and a sofa bed larger than a ” regular room ” . The 1- 2 -3 have full kitchens ,queen to double bed’ s .If you can go to the super market before entering it would be a relaxing time . They all have nice balcony get some air ,and check out stuff around the resort . Make sure the price is right for you all ! Have a great stay .😃
hope King says
Hi There!
We’re scheduled for POR for 7/25-8/1. I have a funny feeling that it will be opened by then. My question is , will they honor the price on my original email? I had fun and sun discount. Has anyone received the price on the original confirmation or is that wishful thinking?
Pam says
I’m supposed to check in June 21 and have received nothing from Disney 🤔
DFB Sarah says
Hope, that’s a good question. I’m not sure if I have seen any reader comments that speak to this issue exactly. When it comes to cost, it sounds like responses are still a little all over the place. I think a call to Disney might ease your mind.
DFB Sarah says
Kathie, have a peaceful, relaxing trip.
Mr. John says
Existing reservation today is July 11, I would call Disney to make sure the resort they will put you in for your vacation. There are only a few that will be open it came out a few hours ago. Thing ‘s It said to call to up date ,modify ,cancels, and if you are going . “Call for up dates get it from the horses mouth ! If you booked a resort and it is not open they let you in a open resort . But you have to pay the difference $$$$ !😂 To Linda and Sara .
DFB Sarah says
Brandon, that is our understanding based on Disney’s official information. The caveat, according to Disney, is that you don’t have a say on which DVC Resort you’re moved to.
DFB Sarah says
Jan, I think you might just have to wait this out a bit. The information seems to be changing near-constantly, so I would say if your trip was coming up soon, the answer might be yes (or no, as folks with certain departure dates were told they could change for free). But since several weeks stand between now and then, so much can change. We’ll keep updating, and you can always call Disney to see what they say. Good luck!
Mr. John says
Today I tried to ca!I earlier and at 5; 00 p.m. the phones are so “BUSY ” . There must be a lot of people trying to get info . I hope the parks become normal by July 2021 I needed to go I need to use my DVC points ! I need a DOLE – DOLE- WHIP !!!😀
Yolande says
Is there any news about international guest? I have a booking in October and we aren’t allowed to leave the country will we be able to rebook?
Jeffrey says
We have reservations for the end of August. They canceled all our dining reservations already. Have you heard anything about dates that far out yet? We also have tickets to MNSSHP. Have you heard anything about that ?
Lori says
By way of information: I was 7/5-7/10 and did not receive an email. I called and they are modifying anyone checking out by the 11th (email or not). I kept our dates and because of the loss of FD was offered the 35% discount. We were expected to keep our dates and move from Boardwalk Inn studio Garden view to Boardwalk Villas 1 berm standard view. This didn’t work for us because we needed the pull out bed they have in the studios. We requested Old Key West because even though this was a cash stay, we are DVC with home resort there. They explained they are trying not to change resorts whenever possible to assist with the complexity of modifications but given our need for the third bed option and the lack of a studio at Boardwalk they were very willing to work to accommodate us. They worked with us to switch to a 1 bedroom at OKW with the same dates at 35% discount. Changing dates was not an option without possibly significantly impacting our rate. Our park hopper passes were refunded because the parks would not open during our dates. Being closer Disney Springs was a perk in our eyes given the parks being closed and our fingers are crossed for soft openings for DVC, resort guests, APs (which we just bought with the savings from the park hoppers). Don’t hesitate to call if your check out is on or before the 11th. No email here at all. And don’t hesitate to politely ask for what your family needs. After 1 hour and 37 minutes and two different CMs, we are very happy with the results. 🙂
Caryn Wakelin says
Hi – Thanks for the great videos – I love watching them all. Just wanted to say we are booked for first two weeks in November and have just had an email asking us to confirm, cancel or rebook by June 27th. If we don’t contact Disney by then they will automatically cancel and refund us. We tried to ring but the wait on the phone was 140 min! Have decided to ask for a rebooking for November 2021, but I think this will be too far ahead, so will probably have to cancel and rebook nearer the time. Virgin Atlantic say we can rebook our flights any time up to Sept 2022, so should be OK. Going to try ringing Disney midweek in the daytime, when hopefully the phone lines not so busy. Thank you for keeping us all in the loop with what is happening.
david says
We have been asked the same question and are not due to go until October 15th.
Definitely seems too early to decide
David says
We are due to go October 15th and have been asked to decide by 27th June.
DFB Sarah says
Lori, thank you for sharing your experience!
Mr. John says
Pam call disney make sure you have a reservation they want you to call reservation s ! My cruise was canceled they did not call I had to check the web site did not call me ! The web sight said to call to cancel or modify you reservations .Use the phone call !
Brandon says
The CM I spoke with said she didn’t know why people were asked to call and cancel. Since it will cancel itself.
I was specifically told to keep my reservation until the last possible date because more resort options may open up to switch to. Otherwise the reservation will cancel itself and money will be refunded.
Deborah roberts says
We where due to travel to orlando from UK 6th September and we received our email asking us to confirm, cancel or transfere our booking till next year in 2021. We actually had two bookings as myself, hubby and our two little boys on one and my elderly parents on the second as we are staying in two separate rooms. We have changed our dates for Friday 29th October for 14days so we will be able to attend both the Boo to you Halloween party and the Micky’s very merry Christmas party!! 😀❤️👍We had already paid in full so sue to the change being over 12months in advance now, our resort rooms, x14 day park hoppers and memory maker all booked and sorted but No flights available as yet so we need to add those again in December. Also you still CANNOT book or rebook disney dining plans for now or next year as yet!!?? So I will have to add that later too!!?? Although the walt Disney travel company are doing a fantastic job and refunding our disney dining upgrade and flights until we can rebook which is great. Also we did not loose any money which was great!!! But the 35% off the resort stay due to missing out on our free disney dining is ONLY if you stick to your original booking not it you have to change due to the 14day quarantine period etc which isn’t very good to be honest!? When you are spending the money and your trip is rebooked and tour children are devistated and you get nothing as a sorry for moving it till next year that’s upsetting but yeah at least the magic should be back to full capacity by October 2021 for the 50th anniversary. Until then I will continue to watch and read DFB guide to keep up to date with all things disney, thanks and Stay safe all xxxxxx
Caryn Wakelin says
Hi David – yes it does seem a bit early to decide. We were going to wait for a bit until they had sorted out all of the people with bookings before us but, as we have to decide now, it seems the best bet will be to cancel and rebook later. We dont really want to go any other time of year (dont like the heat) and giving it another year might mean some of the cancelled things will be back, like the parades and fireworks etc. Sad we arent going this year, but might work out better in the long run. And we shouldnt lose out financially, which was one of my worries, as everything is being refunded or extended.
John Bayles says
Yes were suppose to be there June 15th haven’t heard anything from Disney was hoping they would do something for us we will probably rebook for 2021 date if possible.
DFB Sarah says
Jeffrey, we have not heard anything specific about dates in August, beyond what readers are commenting. As for MNSSHP, last indication was that it’s still on, but Disney is not selling new tickets. We are watching for updates.
DFB Sarah says
Yolande, we have heard very little about international guests. Several readers have said they received an email from Disney recently about their international plans. If you haven’t, you may want to call.
DFB Sarah says
John, you’ll want to reach out to Disney, I think.
Mr. John says
Yolande international flight are still suspended to the United States . Go on the web international fights it will tell you the facts . ! I just look it up .Call and re – schedule for a lot later in the year call airlines an Disney World Resorts in case you can get a modification and or refund . If you call the carriers maybe they can text you when the no fly is over hopefully real soon .
