We certainly have been curious about how Disney would handle drink refills after reopening!
This probably doesn’t come as a shock to you, but we have our fair share of Disney World Resort Refillable Mugs. The Refillable Mug Program helps to get you free refills for a limited time (sometimes with a specific expiration date, sometimes for the length of your stay). But how do refillable mugs work now that the hotels have reopened with new health and safety features?
When Disney Springs reopened, we noticed that guests were no longer permitted to use the fountain drink machines — a Cast Member now fills your cup for you. It turns out, the Disney World hotels are following a similar policy when it comes to refillable mugs! You can snag your mug in a variety of hotel locations and they even show up on Mobile Order at some spots.
For now, you present your refillable mug to a Cast Member. Once it’s been scanned for validity, the Cast Member will fill a disposable cup for you. Then it’s your choice to drink from the disposable cup or to toss your drink into your reusable mug. Whatever you pick — refills are still free with a valid mug!
Refillable mugs are still available for purchase at well. We have also checked out refillable popcorn buckets in Disney Springs. You can read more about that process here.
Keep an eye on DFB today as we explore more a reopened Disney World — and sip on some soda of course!

Jason says
Why no food plans then? Are they just waiting to see what their supply chain will look like before letting people purchase the food plans?
DFB Sarah says
Jason, they’ve said they cancelled them because they’re adjusting for restaurant capacity.
Jackie says
Hmmmmm, hats a a LOTif waste. The fountains are touchless, makes no sense.
Linda Stoddard says
What is the procedure for adding sugar and cream to coffee and tea?
Marilyn says
Can’t even get through any of their numbers to ask questions regarding the AP renewals. We have DVC resort reservations for end of Sept. 2020 and our AP expires Sept. 17, 2020. We can’t book our Park visit. I’ve tried all times of the day including at 7 am EST.
rf says
I’m sure they don’t HAVE to fill the cup for you if you are putting your own drink in it.
Anne Rebelo says
That’s a shame, because it will be a lot of waste. But then again there will be less people so it may even out. Hopefully this does not go on forever – just because it is a pain 🙂
DFB Sarah says
Marilyn, we’ve also had no luck getting through on the phone today. If you can try the chat function, some folks say that’s been faster for them.
Jim Anthony says
Can’t believe they’ll have cast members standing by poolside drink dispensers. Just add wipes and order people to use them when touching the buttons.
Serena says
Do you still get a No cost one if you are staying at a Disney ?
Is it free ‘drinks’ for your entire stay?
Thanks!
Sorry for the crypt trying to post it thinks it’s a duplicate
DFB Sarah says
Serena, refillable mugs were free with Disney Dining Plan (though, of course, the cost is built into the cost of the DDP). It allows for free beverages at Resorts only (but all Resorts — not just your own) for your length of stay. Those not using DDP (everyone, right now) can purchase a refillable mug for length of stay beverages.
Ret says
Thanks for this info re the refillable mugs. We always purchase mugs (we never used the dining plans), so we’re happy that we’ll still be able to do that. Due to the current situation, we’ve already planned that our upcoming vacation will be more of a “relaxing at our resort” trip, with minimal park time, so our refillable mugs will definitely come in handy more than they ever have before.
We’ll just be so happy to be back at our Disney home. Seventeen months between visits is way too long. Although we’ll miss many of our favorite things, we have many memories and fantastic imaginations where WDW is concerned. I’m starting to feel like we’re back in the early days and I’m looking to the adventure.
