Bri says
Sounds like I’m going to need to get the DVC Gold Annual Pass for my trip next month if I want access to the Theme Parks if I’m reading this correctly. (I don’t currently have any theme park tickets but have a Poly DVC points stay July 21-26.
DFB Sarah says
Bri, I recommend calling DVC to talk about this as soon as you’re able. It sounds like those with room-only reservations may be able to amend their packages starting June 24 in order to access the Disney Park Pass system, but you’ll want to confirm this with DVC member services, I think.
Lea says
I’m still confused about ticket availability if I already have a resort reservation (booked last year) but have not yet purchased park tickets. Any idea if they’re going to give ticket purchase priority to those who already have confirmed resort stays?
DFB Sarah says
Lea, what the information released TODAY says is this: “If you have a room-only reservation at a Disney Resort or other select hotel for a stay in 2021, please call the Disney Reservation Center or call your travel professional beginning on June 24 to upgrade to a vacation package with tickets—and then make your theme park reservations.” Nothing about priority specifically, but it looks like you will be able to purchase tickets before they’re on sale to the general public, since NEW 2020 purchases won’t be released until later this summer.
Christina Wendt says
We have a resort reservation for September 2020. I am an annual passholder but my husband doesn’t yet have a ticket. When will tickets be made available for people with existing 2020 room only reservations?
Jocelyn says
Oh boy, I actually just got through buying a hotel and plane tickets for next month for Disneyworld thinking the tickets for 2020 visitation would open up around mid july.
Nicole says
Clarification-I have a villa purchased for September-October 2020. I have an annual pass but I have not purchased park tickets for my 3 family members yet. Any idea if and when we can add on park tickets for existing room reservations in 2020?
DFB Sarah says
Nicole, since you have a Resort reservation but some folks in your party don’t have tickets, I think this info is relevant to you: “If you have a room-only reservation at a Disney Resort or other select hotel for a stay in 2021, please call the Disney Reservation Center or call your travel professional beginning on June 24 to upgrade to a vacation package with tickets—and then make your theme park reservations.”
DFB Sarah says
Jocelyn, if you’ve got a Disney Resort reservation, it looks like you can add tickets starting on June 24.
DFB Sarah says
Christina, Disney says June 24 for guests with room-only reservations in 2021, but 2020 seems unclear. Here’s the official language: “If you have a room-only reservation at a Disney Resort or other select hotel for a stay in 2021, please call the Disney Reservation Center or call your travel professional beginning on June 24 to upgrade to a vacation package with tickets—and then make your theme park reservations.”
Susan Anderson says
So, if you have a hotel booked off property, between now & Dec. 31st, & no tickets purchased, that particular group looks like they are left hanging? We are scheduled for the 1st week of August. We cannot change our vacation dates. So we just wait ?
DFB Sarah says
Susan, since your stay is in 2020, you’ll have to wait until Disney opens sales later this summer (they’ve said). Readers are saying that may be as soon as next week, and we will update as soon as we know!
Patricia Spang says
Thanks for keeping us current!
It took about two hours to get in the system. Not too bad. My issues/questions:
I have a reservation for four nights at DVC in August, and a valid annual pass. The system would only let me book three days in the parks. That’s not what was promised.
I also have a DVC reservation for September. I am not allowed to reserve any park days for that reservation. When will that be available?
I understand the attempt to let as many people as possible enjoy the magic, but surely people will start cancelling hotel reservations that are longer than three days if we can’t get in the parks.
DFB Sarah says
Patricia, you should, according to Disney’s statements, be able to book all of your Resort days. Others have reported this problem, while still others have had no trouble (including our team members with APs and multiple Resort stays). I think you might want to try calling VIPassholder services if you can get through. Also, you might want to try accessing the system in different ways. Through the calendar availability, through MDE on the browser, and through the Disney Park Pass page directly. I’m sure you’ve tried some or all of these, but I’m trying to think of anything that might help. Good luck!
JAS says
I have two members of a 5 person group trip in November without tickets. I thought I could alter hopper’s today to match the rest of my group. I’m part of that limbo group in 2020 with a hotel reservation but tickets to park not settled.
DFB Sarah says
JAS, hopefully they’ll open new sales sooner rather than later so you can complete your plans!
Rachel says
We have a resort stay in November of 2020 but no tickets. We got information from here and a Disney cast member that we could call today and upgrade our room-only reservation, but after calling today that doesn’t seem to be the case. I’ll have to keep checking back here for our date to add tickets to existing resort reservations.
DFB Sarah says
Rachel, yeah, it looks like the new ticket sales for 2020 will be “later this summer.” A reader was told that could be as soon as next week, so we will update when there’s a set date.
Jim says
Just an FYI for anyone still looking. The ticket “upgrade” option today for 2021 trips does not apply to DVC reservations. Spent 3+ hours on the phone with Disney to be told to call DVC as the CM couldn’t open the reservation. Spent another hour + waiting to talk to DVC to find out, they cannot sell tickets yet. So if you have a room only reservation through Disney, they can “upgrade” you to a package and you will have tickets, but they are not technically selling tickets yet.
TonyL says
For those that have commented on this statement:
“If you have a room-only reservation at a Disney Resort or other select hotel for a stay in 2021, please call the Disney Reservation Center or call your travel professional beginning on June 24 to upgrade to a vacation package with tickets—and then make your theme park reservations.”
I actually called on the 24th and the cast member could not add the tickets to my DVC reservation even though she thought it should have been possible. She had to go ask and said that it would not actually be possible until the 26th and that it also should go live online on the 26th so I wouldn’t have to call. I checked this morning and it is still not live so now I am beginning to wonder if she was mistaken.
TonyL says
By the way, my DVC reservation is in Jan 2021
DFB Sarah says
TonyL, very strange! Disney’s info pretty clearly said the 24th. Did you try calling Member Services to see if they can help at all?
TonyL says
No, I didn’t call member services, just the reservation line. I can try that and see. Thanks for the tip Sarah.
DFB Sarah says
TonyL, sending you good luck!
Madelyn says
I realize no date has been announced for ticket sales for 2020, but if a ticket is purchased when they do become available, will they be able to be used at a later date if the decision is made not to travel in October as we have planned? I have looked for the answer to this on the Disney site, but I haven’t found any answer, unless I’m looking in the wrong place…
Diane Taylor says
I have a room only reservation at WDW Swan for October. I called Disney on 6/25, sat on hold for 2 1/2 hours and was then told I could not yet buy tickets to go with my room. I was told it would probably be later this month. I’m not sure there will be any park reservations left at that point.
DFB Sarah says
Diane, it sounds like you got the correct info, even though that doesn’t help with the timeline. Disney says “later this summer” for 2020 ticket sales to resume. It could be any time, so do keep an eye on your account and on the news. We will update ASAP when the info is released.
DFB Sarah says
Madelyn, I believe the policy is that you can modify the dates of your trip (i.e. the dates your tickets are for), but if there’s a price increase from the dates you have to the dates you modify to, you would have to pay the difference.
Christina says
Some of these reopening procedures and dates can be confusing. My children and I are annual passholders so on June 26 I was able to book three days of park reservations. Disney state’s on June 28 existing ticket holders will now be allowed to make a reservation. I took this as being able to book hotel reservations. When I tried it said no more availability for my dates for every single hotel. If AP can make park reservations we should be able to make hotel reservations. What good is an AP and park reservation without a hotel room to stay ?
rozalen pober says
Received an email from Disney regarding our WDW Resort Hotel Reservations. Called and spoke to someone who upgraded our Resort Hotel Reservation to a different Hotel for 9/1/2020 (due to some Resort Hotels not being opened or being occupied by sporting event participants. Park Tickets are not available for purchase until “later this Summer”.
DFB Sarah says
Thanks for the update, Rozalen!
TonyL says
Just letting everyone know I was able to get my tickets last week for my DVC reservation in Jan 2021. They were no able to add ticket packages to my reservation so something opened up. Can’t make dining reservations yet though, she said 60 days out and I will be able to make them.
