The reopening of the Disney World theme parks is an unprecedented situation. Disney is walking a fine line in making sure their guests are happy with the protocols.
One heavily affected group is Disney World Annual Passholders. The closure of the parks and modified reopening are definitely not what Passholders had in mind when they purchased their passes. Now, Disney is giving Passholders options for how they want to handle their passes with the reopening.
We already know that Disney is extending affected annual passes by the number of days the parks were closed. The issue now is that many Passholders may have concerns with navigating the Disney Park Pass reservation system and being limited to one park each day with a 3-day reservable limit. In response, Disney is giving Passholders the option to FURTHER extend their pass or to cancel their pass.
For Annual Passholders that have paid in full, your options are:
- Receive a one-month extension to your pass. The additional month will be automatically processed and visible in your My Disney Experience account in October 2020.
- Or, choose to cancel your annual pass and receive a partial refund.
For Annual Passholders on the monthly payment plan, your options are:
- Receive a one-month extension to your pass. The additional month will be automatically processed and visible in your My Disney Experience account in October 2020. Monthly payments will resume on July 11th.
- Or, choose to cancel your annual pass and waive your monthly payments due after August 11th. Any payments made between July 11th and August 11th will be retroactively refunded and all future payments will be stopped.
Disney will be sending out information to Passholders in early July with details on how to choose an option. If you’re an affected Passholder with questions, reach out to us! We’ll do everything we can to source the answers to your questions in this confusing time. For all the latest Annual Passholder updates, keep an eye on DFB!

Corey McLaughlin says
Where do I find that 2020 Passholder magic band?
Nayla says
I’m a fully paid annual pass holder, how can I contact Disney for the additional extension of the pass? Since airports were I live won’t be open and we won’t be able to come before the expiration date of the passes. Can you please help us?
Thank you!
Tom Fagan says
Why are they only giving a one month extension? I paid for 12 months and they we’re down for 3 months!
Sheree says
Where did the 3 day limit come from? There are 4 parks! I am coming from utah. I want at least 4 days!
Paul says
Hey DFB Team,
I have an AP but my wife does not. Am I right in thinking that at this moment I can’t buy additional tickets so, unless I want to visit on my own, a partial refund makes most sense. Have I missed anything?
Thanks for all your amazing support and advice. It truly is appreciated!
Heather Christopher says
AP holder here, will Disney be extending the additional month BEYOND the original offer of extending our passes for the time Disney was closed as they first offered? (4 month extension for closure plus 1 additional month for new reservation system)
Julie says
I just called yesterday and took a partial refund for the closed time instead of the 4 month extension, my annual pass expires in November I’ll still get those days until the expiration date won’t I? It sounds like if you did you cancelled your pass! Please could you verify this
Caryn says
I don’t understand how this works exactly.
Our pass went through May 9. Let’s call the 117 days they were closed as about 4 months. That takes us through around Sep 9. So they add a month through Oct 9? That seems clear, but then a little strange it wouldn’t show until October 2020, since in theory we’d be using it as soon as mid-September.
Realistically, I doubt we’ll be going until there’s a vaccine, but good to understand our options. I was hoping they’d go more the route you’d shared on one of the Asian parks where the extension was also all the time of limited operations. But I’m not complaining if they don’t.
Mg says
What does it mean partial refund for paid full annual pass? Only used annual pass four times. Pass started early Feb 2020. Will my son and his wife get 10 months that is left on their pass back?
Liz says
Do you know of this is in addition to the partial refund offer that was extended early on for Pass holders that chose not to renew? As in, we already called before to say that we did not want to renew our passes and we were informed our information was submitted for the refund for the number of days the park was closed. Is that still in effect or is this replacing that refund process? Does my question make sense?
C.J. says
Hello. I am currently trying to figure out my husband and step-son’s pass problem. Their passes expired June 17th. The app allows me to renew my step-son’s pass, but not my husband’s. We want to make park reservations on June 22 because we have a resort reservation in September. Anyone know if we can renew passes right now? I know there were issues renewing passes while the park was closed.
Thanks!!
Madeleine says
We will renew our APS, DISNEY IS PART OF LIVES AND OUR FAMILY,ITS OUR HAPPY PLACE.CPLACE.CANT WAIT UNTIL WE GET OUR EMAIL, TO BE ABLE TO RETURN AGAIN! MISS YOU DISNEY
CJ says
I renewed my Annual Pass on March 7, I just read about being able to cancel my pass and receive a partial refund. I didn’t even use the pass yet! I’m confused about “partial refund”! I have the Platinum Plus and live in PA. I want desperately to go to Disney but with a lot of Cancelled Events, in Epcot (Eat to the Beat) and Magic Kingdom(MNSSHP). Plus the Pandemic is still going on , with Florida cases rising, I have Severe Reservations going to Disney World now. We were going in October , staying at Beach Club, Club Level, as of now that service is suspended. Club Level is like a buffet, you go up and help yourself, What will Club Level be like? I may wait till next Autumn, I’ll live vicariously through the DFB.:)
DFB Sarah says
Liz, your question makes sense, but I really don’t know the answer. The AP information from Disney has been a little all over the place. I think a call to VIPassholder or Disney reservations is the way to go to get clarity on this. Good luck!
DFB Sarah says
Mg, I’m not sure how Disney will figure the partial refunds. You’ll definitely want to reach out about that.
DFB Sarah says
CJ, Disney seems to have halted AP renewals yesterday, but I think you’ll need to call Disney to see if they can do anything for you, since you have other renewed Passes. Good luck!
DFB Sarah says
Heather, it sounds like it on this AP page from Disney.
DFB Sarah says
Paul, you may try calling Disney to see if there’s any way to add a ticket for your wife since you just have the one AP. Hopefully they can walk through the options from their end to help you decide. Good luck!
DFB Sarah says
Sheree, no info on this; it’s just what Disney posted on their AP page yesterday. If you have a Resort stay planned, you can book all the days of your Resort stay, if that helps.
DFB Sarah says
Tom, I think they mean a one-month extension on top of adding days that the Parks were officially closed. Here’s the AP page if it helps.
DFB Sarah says
Nayla, here’s the AP page with info. Hopefully you’ll find what you need there.
DFB Sarah says
Corey, we found it at Hollywood Studios around the time Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway opened in early-March. I don’t see if on ShopDisney (although there is another MMRR MB on there).
kraftykouponer says
So the June 22 will not have the passholder soft open dates right? It will be something sent out in July.
DFB Sarah says
Krafty, that’s correct — the AP Preview will be sent via separate email (according to Disney).
C.J. says
Sarah,
We called and they directed us online and were able to renew. Thanks for the help =)
CJ says
Dear DFB,
Sarah didn’t answer my question, I am the CJ without (..) between letters, My time stamp was 12:12 pm, you answered the one at 11:59, if you have any info on my questions or advice, I would appreciate it! Thanks for your time!
Dave A. says
I am very disappointed in the response from Disney. This is quite different from their Shanghai policy which makes more sense. When I bought the pass I did so expecting full services (park hopping, parades, shows, etc.) As is included in a platinum pass. Until this full offerings are restored, i don’t feel these VERY limited services should count as days against my pass. It is not even reasonable that I can get there and stay anywhere!
Sarah Adams says
I wish they would release info properly and not vague info and then say “we will release details in July!”. I need to make a decision on what to do and currently extending the extra month may benefit me with one of my reschedule options but if the option is to cancel and get a refund for the portion from March onwards this would be better overall. The original “partial refund” option turned out only to be the time the park was closed which didn’t help as I still want to come to Disney and this wouldn’t have covered a weeks pass which was what I wanted. I have only used 6 days of my AP and am out of country so don’t even know when we will be able to fly in. I was meant to visit in May and that trip was cancelled so trying to rearrange is difficult when we just don’t know when our flights will restart. I would happily pause my pass til next March and then restart it but Disney hasn’t offered this as an option. I just wish they would give clear information so we can make proper decisions rather than having to wait possibly another month to decide what to do
DFB Sarah says
Sarah, I hear your frustration. I wish there was more clarity for you.
DFB Sarah says
Hi, CJ. I think you’ll want to reach out to VIPassholder or Disney to ask. I’m guessing “partial refund” is based on the length of time you’ve had the AP, but since you haven’t used your renewed Pass, I don’t know what they’ll do for you. Sorry I don’t have more info!
DFB Sarah says
C.J., great news! Thanks for updating.
SuzanneS says
I made resort reservations based on my pass being extended one month. Now I can’t get a park reservation because I don’t have a ticket for that time. And I won’t until Oct 2020! How the heck is that supposed to work? We’ll extend it a month, but you can’t make a reservation to go to the parks for that extended time! Come on Disney! Think about these things before you put it out there in writing!
DFB Sarah says
Suzanne, I hear your frustration — and the info has been confusing and incomplete. I think you may want to try to get through on the VIPassholder line to see if they can help.
KraftyKouponer says
So I heard Disney is pushing their opening Dates Back… due to the corona case numbers increasing in Florida. HOTEL reservations are being canceled prior to July 15th…
SuzanneS says
After a 2.5 hour wait, I did finally get through on the VIPassholder number. Basically passholders were given the days the park was closed. You should see that already. After verifying with other cast members they will be adding another month on to your annual pass in October. If you want to do like I did and make reservations against that time you will not be able to make park reservations until October. There is no guarantee there will be any park reservations available. You’ll have to assume there will be. Another option is to go ahead and buy tickets for that time. This ticket purchase would then go towards your discount when you do renew your annual pass. Or you can just renew your annual pass now and you’ll be able to make your reservations for that extra month Disney is giving.
Elizabeth Jeanne Seamer says
My husband and I have gold annual passes that originally expire November 18, 2020. We decided to cancel and called a month ago but they said they would only give us a partial refund for the 4 months of closure. I didn’t have the correct phone number to call and the call was transferred 3 times before I got the right person. I had to wait on hold a long time each time I was transferred. After reading this blog, I understand I can cancel our passes. How do I cancel since we’ve cancelled our trips until there is a vaccine out? Online somehow? Calling, if so what number do I call?
Thank you for your help!
