The new Disney Park Pass System — which is an online tool that allows guests to make a required reservation to visit one of the four Walt Disney World theme parks when they start to reopen in July — made its debut earlier this week.
Currently, the system has rolled out to guests with Walt Disney World Resort hotel reservations (who also have valid theme park admission) before it opens to Walt Disney World Annual Passholders on June 26th and existing ticket holders on June 28th.
While it may be exciting to get that official confirmation when your park plans are finalized (you can see the full process here), what happens if you need to alter your theme park reservation due to a change of plans or preference?
We learned today, both by attempting for ourselves and by confirming with a Cast Member, that there is no option to “modify” your current Park Pass reservations at press time.
In order to select a new park or date, you must actively cancel your current reservation (listed under “My Plans” in your My Disney Experience account) and then proceed to book a new Park Pass reservation.
Remember, though, that park reservations are “limited and subject to availability.” The options that were available when you first made your reservation may not be on the table when you opt to cancel. So, you’ll definitely want to check availability for the park and date you want to go to before you cancel any current Park Pass reservations.

So now I literally just received an email ‘Action Required before returning to the Magic’. It says to review and confirm. So when I click on the link to say we are still planning our visit the room for my families resort stay says it’s been CANCELED! We just confirmed our magic bands last night. I realize Disney is dealing w a lot and I am not the only guest. But this has to end! I can’t spend the next 2 weeks stressing about this. I’ve tried all day just to get Disney to answer the phone. I waited 2 hrs on the phone just to be told they are only making dinner reservations up to July 10th.
So do I just assume that the email is a glitch? My Disney experience still has our Park Reservations. And our resort plans.

I did this and cancelling / rebooking is not for the faint of heart…what frustrated me is I could not see availability when I was going through the process…my calendar was white the whole time
DFB Sarah says
Serena, how stressful! Did you have any luck last night? Or try this morning? Sometimes the chat function is faster, if you can have that running at the same time you’re waiting on hold. Crossing my fingers it’s just a weird glitch!
Lois Pierce says
I don’t know if this is helpful, but I was able to change my reservation thru My Disney Experience yesterday. I had reservations for the 6th thru the 17th of September at Pop Century and I was able to change the reservation to May of next year. Once I was able to get into the change reservation screen ( that took about 15 min.) everything else went off without a hitch. My only complaints were that they didn’t have park hours up on the park reservations calendar and every day you made a park reservation, to make another reservation you had to start all over again, scrolling thru all the months to get back to the month you wanted. I was always afraid I was going to forget which day I was on.

This is more of a “question” rather than a “comment”, but I’m hoping you can accommodate me: I’ve got a reservation for Port Orleans-French Quarter in October, but as yet there has been no announcement as to when that resort will be opened. As near as I can tell, there’s no way to change that reservation using the on-line booking system at this time. So what I want to know is Disney just cancelling reservations for non-opened resorts or are they attempting to change those CONFIRMED reservations to one of the opened resorts?
George Watson says
We have reservations and passes for us and another couple. What if the other couple decides to cancel. Is there going to be a way to reduce from 4 to 2 without cancelling and rebooting? REALLY don’t want to do that later on. What happens if the 2 of them are simly no-shows?
Alex says
We were supposed to go this March, which was obviously canceled, and have now rebooked to March 2021. The problem is, our daughter will turn 3 in September, meaning we had not originally booked her a park ticket but now will need one. EXCEPT, they won’t let us add any park tickets! So my husband and I have park tickets and a resort reservation, but now can’t make park reservations because they won’t let us buy a park ticket for our child! What are our options here?? We can’t even get through to the waiting list on the phone lines….
Adam Sager says
This seems like an unnecessarily stressful process to maneuver. It’s unfortunate that one must relinquish their hold on one park pass PRIOR to securing the new park pass. It creates an opportunity for someone to potentially end up with nothing (should pass availability change during that brief window of time after cancelling.) You’d think a simple “modify” option would alleviate a lot of unnecessary stress from the process. Listen up, Disney programmers!
DFB Sarah says
Alex, yikes! That’s a rough spot to be in. I’m sorry you haven’t had luck talking to Disney; I feel like getting ahold of someone in reservations is the only way to sort it out. From what we’ve been told, new ticket sales are expected “later this summer”, which could be as soon as next week but may be longer. I think if I was in your situation, I would keep trying to call/chat online AND keep checking my account to see if ticket sales become available. (We will also be updating this info as soon as it’s available.) It is not uncommon to connect with reservations staff who can/will do different things for you. Sending you good luck — and an early happy birthday for your daughter.
DFB Sarah says
George, we haven’t heard any policies about no-shows, but we will update if/when we see something along those lines. As for needing to remove folks from your Park Pass, I just logged into my own family’s plans to see what happens if you click cancel (yes, I held my breath), and it took me to a page where I could click DPP reservations I want to KEEP. So if you and your spouse want to keep your plans but remove your friends, it looks like you can do that without sacrificing your Pass. Does that make sense?
DFB Sarah says
Eric, I have heard mixed accounts from readers, so I think to be safe, you’ll want to call.
LINDA LACLAIR says
we need to canel this reservation on the 08/25/2020 for epcot
Lon says
Can I add my spouse to my reservation for animal kingdom? It says full for this date but the rest of the family has a ticket!! For tomorrow!
DFB Sarah says
Lon, I hope you talked to someone at Disney and checked on this!
Angela Armondi says
i odered to tickets to hollywood studios it some how got the date of birth wrong on one of the tickets its suppose to be over 18 but when i click on park reservations it wont let me make park reservations
DFB Gigi says
Hi Angela,
