We’ve just arrived at Disney World now that Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom which have just reopened TODAY!
And while we’ll be updating this post throughout the day, we want to show you what the crowds were like bright and early this morning! Let’s grab a cup of coffee and scope out the scene.
During Disney World’s phased reopening, attendance will be reduced using the Disney Park Pass system which requires guests to have valid theme park admissions and a reservation to visit.
So just how crowded were the parks today with these new safety guidelines in place? Check it out!
We entered the park shortly before 9AM and noticed that lines to scan your ticket (without a fingerprint scan) were fairly light with guests observing social distancing.
There was, however, quite the line for guest relations.
Once we got inside the Magic Kingdom, there was some initial crowding on Main Street, U.S.A., as guests filtered into the park and got the first peek at Cinderella Castle in all her new pink, gold, and blue glory.
There was also a bit of a line for Main Street Bakery as early morning risers tried to get their Starbucks fix.
Now, most of the initial crowding on Main Street, U.S.A. has filtered out.
Once we left the hub and entered Adventureland, we noticed significantly lighter crowds in the first hour of the park’s opening.
And while the line for Pirates of the Caribbean stretched outside of the show building, there were social distancing markers on the ground, and guests seemed to be following their advice.
At 11AM, we circled back to the Magic Kingdom’s entrance to see if the congestion had cleared at all. Two hours after the park’s reopening, we saw significantly slimmer crowds, with many entrance points having no line at all.
The once-lengthy guest relations line had also really cleared up.
In a continuing trend, Main Street was looking even lighter than the second time we strolled through.
When we continued to make our rounds through the park, we noticed that the crowd was super light as we walked from Adventureland into Frontierland.
Around lunchtime, we noticed a line outside of Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Cafe — but the guests seemed to do a pretty good job of maintaining social distance while queuing in the shade.
As we made our way further into the park, the crowds thinned out even more. Check out all of the open space in the back of Fantasyland!
While we did encounter more guests near popular attractions and restaurants, we generally experienced a pretty low crowd level when navigating throughout the park. We’ll continue to keep an eye on how things progress now that Magic Kingdom has officially reopened!

Michael Clair Evans says
WDW has done specialty tours previously i.e. Backstage Magic these have been limited in size anyway but are they still doing them and if not will they restart when the dust settles?
DFB Sarah says
Michael, the tours are suspended with no announced restart date. We’ll update when they do!
JOHN says
Wow, must be so much fun with hardly anyone there. Over the last few years, Disney has gotten so crowded that it was becoming nearly unenjoyable. I lived in Florida and barely visited WDW just for that reason. Such a shame.
Ken says
I started visiting MK annually in Dec. of 1990, I thought it was empty then, but this takes the cake. I hope they can hold on until the guests return in volume. It takes a lot of people and money to run the mouse house. It needs to be a lot more busier. What about the water parks…? When are they Opening…?
wendy says
I actually think the crowds add to the atmosphere, I’m not sure about it being so empty, seems sad and not a place I’d like to be.
Mark says
Does not look like the Magic Kingdom I know. Never thought I would say I missed the crowds.
DFB Sarah says
Ken, no reopening date for water parks yet.
