Disney World has been open for almost two months, but there’s still much of the property that remains closed.
Many Disney World resort hotels are open or have reopening dates set, some are partially open to DVC members, and some do not have a reopening timeframe at all. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, for instance, has availability at the DVC Villas and Bungalows right now but wasn’t set to fully open until next October. Now, that reopening has been delayed.
Disney World announced this morning that the reopening date for Polynesian Village Resort will be pushed back from October 4th to next summer. The Villas and Bungalows will remain open during this time.
The reopening has been delayed to create an opportunity to finish some refurbishment work at Polynesian such as enhancements to the Great Ceremonial House and Guest rooms. Work on this project is expected to begin in October.
For guests with impacted reservations, Disney will be reaching out to you and/or your travel professional to explain the change. Impacted guests will be accommodated at a different Disney World Resort hotel for no additional charge. If you had an upcoming reservation at Polynesian Village Resort, keep an eye out for an email from Disney.
As with most situations right now, the dates and refurbishment plan for Polynesian Village are subject to change. Disney notes that they will continue to monitor the situation and impact of the global health crisis in Florida. As always, stay tuned to DFB for the latest updates!

Wayne Richline says
What does this mean for the possible re-openings of both Trader Joe’s and ‘Ohana?
Chris says
I have a DVC stay there first week of November. My question is will the current services that are open (shops, Kona, etc.) stay open or will this be like Jambo which is a ghost town?
Kayla Erickson says
Sadly, we were affected by this :(. We were planning for marathon weekend (hoping it’s still happening) and having a staycation there for about 4 days. We’re now trying to figure out where to stay or just make the drive for the race.
Amanda says
I just booked for end of August 2021…any idea if my reservation would be impacted?
Sheila says
Is there any place at Polynesian (or anywhere else) where you can Ohana noodles and bread pudding? I’m not seeing them on Tambu Lounge’s menu
DFB Sarah says
Sheila, so far, no. We will keep checking and update!
DFB Sarah says
Amanda, Disney hasn’t released a timeline yet, as far as I know.
DFB Sarah says
Chris, we don’t know the details yet. But we will update when we learn more.
Donna says
We are staying in the DVC in January. Do you know if the Monorail will be available?
John Crocker says
When I talked to a DVC agent yesterday, it sounded like Kona Cafe and Captain Cook’s would still be open.
I have an October Kona reservation…I haven’t seen any cancellation come through.
DFB Sarah says
Donna, Disney is saying the Monorail will run until early October. But there are no dates specified beyond that. The same information says the walkway between Poly and TTC will remain open.
Linda says
This is the news we’ve been watching for. SAD SAD SAD!!!!!!
Rachel says
I did receive my email from Disney as I have reservations for June of 2021 at Poly. Dream vacation for us! I was advised by Disney to keep my current reservation for now and look to move at a later date. Nervous about this of course but I would love to stay at Poly. I guess we will see what happens!
Erin says
Due to Covid, I had to re-book our 2020 vacation at Poly to 2021. Our trip is slated to begin July 5th. When does “summer” begin on the Disney calendar? Should I consider moving our trip later into July? I am so upset that this trip may have to be re-booked a second time. : (
Cathy says
How does this affect DVC members that are deeded in there
DFB Sarah says
Cathy, I believe the DVC portion is already open and will remain so.
Lorrie Ann Edwards says
We have a trip coming up in a couple weeks do you think ohona will be opened and where will we access the monorail from at the resort as a
DFB Sarah says
Lorrie, no word from Disney yet about ‘Ohana. As for the Monorail, you can still catch it at Grand Floridian and Contemporary, but Polynesian Village’s station is closed.
