Walt Disney World and other Disney theme parks around the world have been officially reopened for some time now, but there’s one part of Disney’s travel portfolio that has no signs of reopening: Disney Cruise Line.
And previously, Disney has stated that its cruise line would be the “last [part of the business] to come back for us.”
As of now, DCL sailings are suspended through mid-December, but what could Disney Cruise Line look like when sailings resume? According to trade organization Cruise Lines International Association, it looks like negative coronavirus tests for all passengers and crew prior to embarkation.
CLIA president and CEO Kelly Craighead announced at Seatrade Cruise Virtual that the CLIA Global Board of Directors has voted to approve 100% testing of passengers and crew prior to embarkation, with a requirement for a negative test, as a core element of initial resumption globally. Disney Cruise Line is a member of CLIA.
This is a MANDATORY measure for all CLIA cruise lines and is effective immediately for the restart of passenger service for vessels capable of carrying 250 or more passengers.
This measure is particularly timely since the CDC’s no sail order for cruise ships is only extended through the end of October. That means, cruises COULD possibly set sail in a matter of weeks. When cruises do resume, it’s safe to say they’ll probably look a LITTLE different with more health and safety measures. And when Disney Cruise Line announces its first sailing again, we’ll let you know all the deets.

Is there any information on whether cruises will include nightly entertainment, in what previously was a packed auditorium?
Brandon says
Serious question.
If we are getting tested prior to boarding, then why do a ship full of healthy people with a negative test result have to wear a mask ON the ship at all times?
This is the dumbest thing ever.
If they really want to do something effective then do t allow people with prior health conditions to get on the ship. Since they are the ones susceptible to getting very sick and dying.

Disney Cruise to open in what year !!! Waiting for a Vaccine that would be the way to go ! To spend $7000 or more and not be able to do what you would like on the cruise is not any fun!😣

This raises a lot of questions. Who does testing? Cruise line? Who absorbs costs? How soon prior to sailing is test required? Like an AIDS test, it’s only good the day of the test. Someone could be exposed and not be exposed long enough for test to show. What about false positives? What about vaccine availability? Is that going to be mandatory?
DFB Sarah says
Matt, I haven’t heard anything about this.

Brandon-
People could still get the virus after the test, and some people could also have a false negative.
I would think banning people susceptible to the virus is akin to discrimination, so there is no way they could go that.
This is a vacation, chill. It’s not like anyone is prohibiting you from an essential need.
