File this under “Not Surprising At All,” but holiday travel this year is expected to look a LOT different. And by that we mean a LOT less people will be doing it.
What would normally be a HEAVILY trafficked time at Disney World is likely to look quite a bit calmer (despite the fact that Thanksgiving Park Passes are filling up), as evidenced by the projections coming from Orlando International Airport.
Thanksgiving is famously — or, uh, infamously — one of the busiest travel times of the entire year, with hordes of people flocking through airports and criss-crossing the country to eat turkey with loved ones. Or in our case, turkey…ice cream?!
Not this year! At least, not for most folks, as mandates and public health announcements mean many people are being encouraged to stay home and cancel travel plans.
For some, this includes rescheduling any Thanksgiving Disney trips!
According to Click Orlando, Florida, like every other state, is urging residents and visitors to heed guidance from public health officials, and since this means nixing airport visits, it’s poised to be a comparatively quiet season at Orlando International Airport!
If you travel to Disney for Thanksgiving, you can have a holiday feast at Wilderness Lodge!
Not only is the TSA reporting that nationwide travel is down 74% since May, but the airport is expecting about 90,000 passengers to come through the weekend after Thanksgiving. That might sound like a lot, but when you consider last year’s numbers were double that, that’s a pretty STEEP drop.
Clearly, people are taking health advisories super seriously. With such a stark drop in air travel, it’s sure to be a holiday season like no other in Disney World. We will continue to keep you updated on the latest Orlando travel news.
