We’ve got updates from Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World!
With all the new attractions coming to the parks, Hollywood Studios and Epcot have gotten a lot of the glory this past year, but Animal Kingdom just got something new too!
Animal Kingdom’s park map got a makeover and there are some notable and unexpected attractions (including live shows) missing. Hollywood Studios recently received a new map as well. You can check it out here!Â
Normally, we use the My Disney Experience app to get around the parks, but every once in awhile we like to pick up a physical copy of the park map (which makes for a great souvenir!). Well, we’re glad we picked it up today because we noticed a new picture on the front! The new map features a family duo in masks excited for their day at Animal Kingdom. Can we get a high 4 (or 5 if you’re not Mickey!)?
The new photo isn’t the only update to the park map, the two live entertainment shows at Animal Kingdom, Finding Nemo the Musical and Festival of the Lion King are missing (!!). It’s interesting that these shows are gone from the map altogether and begs the question, when will we see these come back? It seems as if they may not make a return anytime soon.
Both shows have not been available since the park reopened in July and, following the conclusion of the furlough agreement that was established beginning April 19th (and included equity actors), live entertainment performers were let go as part of the 28,000 Cast Members lay offs in October.
Disney has shared that select shows will return as things go back to normal but with Nemo and Festival of the Lion King removed from Animal Kingdom’s park map, it could be unlikely that the shows make a return in early 2021. In the meantime, we’re keeping all of the Cast Members who have been laid off or transferred in our thoughts.
In addition to the removal of live entertainment attractions, both of the previously announced permanent closures of Primeval Whirl and Rivers of Light are no longer on the park map.
We recently saw the Primeval Whirl ride vehicles being transferred away from the park. You can see that here!

I think it’ll be a while before we see live entertainment back, but I sincerely hope they bring back Festival of the Lion King! It is truly the most fantastic show out of all four parks.

The 3 best things in Animal Kingdom are the Safari ride and the 2 shows. Without the shows, it’s really half a park…

Without live entertainment, Disney is just another Six Flags Park.

So sad that the new park map has to have pictures of a family with masks on. Without shows this park is not worth going to especially with having small children. I am a passholder and will most likely not continue with our passes and saddened being passholders that we cannot enjoy the parks as they once were. Until things change they are not worth going to.
