There is a LOT to look forward to in 2021 at Disney World and Disney parks across the globe!
From immersive new worlds to larger-than-life rides, the company is going ALL OUT for Disney World’s 50th anniversary! And now they’ve officially confirmed 2021 arrivals for some MAJOR projects, while curiously omitting a few others!
At its recent Investor Day 2020, Disney dropped bombshell after bombshell of news, including new TV shows, new movies, and new attractions! In addition to movies like Luca, Encanto, Cruella, and Black Widow, and shows like WandaVision, there’s also a whole SLEW of new rides, hotels, and nighttime spectaculars to look forward to this year!
According to this post from D23, we’re able to confirm the 2021 openings of 6 projects, but we’re still wondering about 4 more BIG openings that aren’t on the list!
Confirmed for 2021
One of the biggest and most immersive projects taking shape this year is Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure at Disneyland Resort. While the opening timeline certainly hinges on the state of the pandemic and lockdowns in California, Disney has said that this Marvel-ous world will indeed be opening in 2021!
At Disneyland, we’re SO EXCITED about Snow White’s Enchanted Wish, which is a less-scary reimagining of the CLASSIC Snow White Scary Adventures. Clearly, Imagineers have been making the most of their time during park closures to update beloved rides, because it seems Disney is still planning on premiering this updated attraction in 2021!
In Disney World, one of the marquee attractions to commemorate the park’s 50th anniversary (!) is Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, which is indeed on track to open this year in the France Pavilion at EPCOT!
Also at EPCOT, we’re READY for Harmonious, the new nighttime spectacular that we’ve been patiently awaiting — and respectfully stalking from afar! With 2021 finally here, it looks like we won’t have to wait much longer!
A big reason we can’t wait to travel abroad again? The 2021 opening of Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel at Disneyland Paris! In case Avengers Campus wasn’t enough to satisfy our Marvel cravings, this Marvel-centric hotel is here to cement the year 2021 as the most super-heroic year of all time!
You better believe we’re excited to see the new Cars-based attraction, which is confirmed to open in 2021 at Walt Disney Studios Park!
OK, so based on the list, those are the CONFIRMED attractions for 2021. You might be scratching your head wondering about a few MAJOR projects we thought were on track to open this year!
Not On the List
Among these colossal openings is TRON Lightcycle Run, which has been racing towards completion at Magic Kingdom!
And the new Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT!
Or there’s the Space 220 restaurant! We’re crossing our fingers, ’cause we can’t wait to dine in space!
Also, umm, how about a little thing called the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser? We couldn’t help but notice this incredibly immersive hotel, which has been speeding along quite nicely, isn’t mentioned on the 2021 list… .
Of course, the fact that these projects aren’t mentioned here is certainly not a sign that they WON’T open in 2021! It’s just interesting that these big-ticket upcoming attractions are not on the list.
With park closures across the globe and the ebb and flow of various lockdowns and restrictions, it’s likely a sign that construction timelines are constantly adjusting. It’s likely that Disney wants to be cautious about committing to any major announcements when construction was or could be pushed off. We’ve seen other projects such as the M&M Store and Everglazed in Disney Springs confirmed to open in 2021 by Disney, but they did not make the list either.
We’ll continue to keep a close eye on construction and news, and we will let you know if Disney officially postpones any of these upcoming projects!
See how the Star Wars hotel will hide its buildings from other Disney World guests!

Definitely hoping Tron opens up this year! My partner and I are planning an early January 2022 trip and are really looking forward to that one.

Seems kinda backwards to me that they have news coming out on Disneyland projects and Nobody knows when they’re even opening back up…Meanwhile, no word on the Huge Disney World ones(too many Likely’s in the last paragraph for comfort Fo Sho’)-lol.

Just saw a video showing the Tron attraction being boarded up where the cars leave the canopy and go into the building. The same was also happening to the que entrance and exit. There is some speculation that they are halting work on Tron and it won’t open in 2021 after all. Could this be due to the fact Disney believes there is already enough opening in 2021?
