Big changes lie ahead for Disney World guests.
For sometime, Disney World Resort guests have used the Disney World Magical Express to travel to and from the airport. Soon, this option will no longer be available. Here’s what we know.
Starting January 1, 2022, Disney World will be discontinuing the Magical Express airport transportation service. Currently, this shuttle serves as transportation between Orlando International Airport and Disney World.
An exclusive Disney statement notes, “As consumer needs and preferences change, we will no longer offer Disney’s Magical Express service starting with arrivals in 2022. At the same time, we’re also introducing new ways for guests to enjoy their visits, including early theme park entry for Disney Resort hotel guests.”
As a reminder, a new Brightline train is set to connect the Orlando International Airport to Disney Springs within the next few years. Disney has previously shared that the,“Brightline’s expansion from West Palm Beach to OIA is on track to be completed in 2022.” And in Brightline’s November monthly ridership report, they revealed that the goal is to start revenue service on the Disney World connection during the second half of 2023. The train could potentially provide transportation to Disney World in lieu of the Magical Express.
Disney’s agreement with Brightline is contingent on, “Brightline’s satisfaction of certain obligations including obtaining all necessary government approvals,” according to the Disney press release on the subject.
We did recently see a reduction in services offered by the Magical Express. With the reopening of the Disney World theme parks, the Magical Express discontinued luggage delivery for both arrivals and departures.

We also reached out to Disney about the Lyft-based rideshare offering at Disney World, Minnie Vans. In an official answer, Disney noted that at this time, “Minnie Vans will remain temporarily unavailable but they hope to bring the offering back in the future.”
As a reminder, Minnie Vans have been unavailable since the park closures.

Before Magical Express, we would do a one day car rental from the airport to our Disney hotel and return it onsite. On departure day, we’d rent onsite and return at the airport. A pain, but less expensive than paying a car service. That was years ago. We’re older now and have gotten used to the luxury of Magical Express, especially having our luggage show up in our room. Without the availability of Magical Express, I’m also wondering if the price of car services to and from the airport will increase. I’m not happy about this and hope Disney executives are reviewing reactions to their latest cut in services. I think Disney believes that people will pay anything for a Disney vacation, and sadly, that may be true.
Arlene says
Has Disney taken into consideration, how many vehicles their decision to eliminate the complimentary bus and luggage service, will put onto the roads of Florida? The roads are jammed now. There will not be enough cars to rent. There will not be enough space in the parking lots to accommodate the extra vehicles. The extra pollution to the air by the extra vehicle’s will be alarming. In the end, Disney will have created a bottle neck of wasted time for vacationers, frustration and high anxiety yielding to unfavorable vacation experiences. Government officials of Florida, need to step up now to discuss with Disney, to evaluate environmental ramifications, traffic safety on its roads and complete intentions for the Florida tourist experience, right up until the vacationer enters their Disney hotel. It is obvious that these are quick fix ideas without long tern solutions. Will airport baggage handling move luggage to the train? Will Disney move the luggage from the train to the hotels? Will there be departure services available from Disney to the airport? Not to mention how moving through the airport terminal to departure gates. So many questions and no answers.

This is very saddening news. Disney used to have such seamless service which is disappearing everywhere you look. Their prices keep going up and the dollar value keeps going down. The Magic Express made it very easy for someone unfamilar with Orlando and the Disney World area. Tried the Means transport system and found them poor and not customer oriented. This move by Disney is one more reason to take Disney World and or Disney Anaheim out of our vaction destinations. We have been annual pass holders for many years. This family of 18 people who would go to Disney 3 or 4 times a year and spend a fortune on all the extras because we loved the place, have all decided that we probably are done with Disney. Many of the competitive parks are offering better prices and better customer service than Disney. So sorry that you are ruining another good perk.
Laurie says
With all the other changes occurring at WDW that are not so positive, this may seal the deal on my family not taking any more vacations there. Part of the draw to WDW is all the magical little perks you would receive leading up to your vacation and upon arrival. Most of these are now gone. So sad!
I can understand the savings Disney will see from not having to lease space at the airport and maintain a vehicle fleet, but the magical moment of entering the ME queue and knowing your vacation just started allowed people to instantly de-stress.
Curious to see what business comes in and corners the market in Orlando to provide this service once ME is gone.
Leslie davis says
I really am upset about this it was a perfect setup for disney and every guest that stays at the park. What do they want now us to rent a car and pay for parking each day it justs sits in the hotel parking lot. It is to big of a price for a rental for a week and parking for less then 100 miles
Keith Long says
Wow, just WOW!! You’ve got to be kidding me!! THIS perk in itself was the reason we all went on vacation to disney. From the time we got on the plane to the time we got off when we got home it was stress free (well, mostly anyways) Add another $1000 easily to rent a car and another $150 for parking at the hotel. Not to mention wasting the whole day waiting at the airport to get a rental. We were going to go May 2022 but now i’m not so sure. I guarantee next on the chopping block will be the shuttle service from hotels to the parks. Oh yes, that’s coming my friends! So tell me, where are the perks to staying on site now? Total BS. I’m not sure we’re even going now. And yes, this does make it or break it for me!!

Catherine Baker says
I am extremely disappointed. We were suppose to have our trip in August of 2020, but we had to cancel due to the covid. We had planned to go in 2022 and there is not service to the resort and the train will not be done. I don’t like them making it sound like the customers no longer need this or want it. This is because they blew through too much money and did not handle things in the best way, so they are cutting services and other things like magic bands, and storage of our bags, but I bet they don’t cut the price. I am very disappointed on how Disney has become all about money. They are out pricing the working class of people and offering less. I realize these are tough times, but guess what it is tough for everyone, well, maybe not the extreme rich. This has been poorly run and when they don’t even have the train service, they are making hard for those of us that still need to redo our vacation time there.
Kelly says
With the exception of the 60 day Fast Pass (which who knows if /when that will return), there really isn’t an incentive to pay for Disney resorts. Plus, my guess is when Tron and GotG open, they will have the Boarding Pass process like RotR – no fast pass. The things that made it worth staying at a Disney Resort are gone: free magic bands, Magical Express, extra magic hours, etc. Thirty minutes early isn’t an incentive when non-resort guests arrive early at the gates to go through bag check lines. And with the ME gone, my heart sank. That was something we ALWAYS loved and I would suggest to people to stay on WDW property because of that perk. But, now, the anxiety of getting off the plane, waiting for your luggage, fighting to get an Uber/cab, etc. Is gone. We used to let out a huge sigh of relief when we got off the plane knowing that all we needed to do was get to the resort and hop on the first bus to MK. Not anymore. I truly wonder who is making all these decisions and why they think their loyal WDW fans would still be okay with it. No more expensive WDW hotels for us. We have never stayed anywhere else!
Frank Haney says
Disneyhas become unfriendly. Family unfriendly, customer unfriendly and value unfriendly. Covid or not, Disney has been going down hill for sometime. Services like the magical express made staying at the over priced Disney Hotels attractive. People could take a plane, get the bus at the airport and stay at a Disney hotel, use the Disney transportation around the parks and not have to worry. THat was a plus. Last year Disney started charging hotel guests to park thier cars at the hotels. What the hell are they thinking.
As far as I am concerned, I wont ever be making a trip from Washington State to Disney World ever again. We stayed at The Old Key West last visit, It was the worst Disney Hotel I ever stayed at, What garbage. No view, services were poor, mold in the bathroom, doors that were sticky and grinded across the floor.
When you spen close to 10K for a weeks vacation from the West Coast to WDW your expect that you would enjoy your time. THat has not been teh case the last few times we traveled to WDW. Disney…..Your should be ashamed, You will soon be out of buisness as your customer service declines
I wont be back.
Nana Penny says
We are a big family, with multiple children from 6 months to 9 years old. Renting enough cars with car seats, or Uber or other car service with car seats will put our annual Disney trip out of our intended price range. This is just sad for all of us. Very sad.
Sharon says
This is terrible news! Disney, what are you thinking? Magic express is an integral part of any WDW vacation for people who fly. I am so disappointed by this decision. Has Disney given up on their core commitment of creating the happiest place on Earth and decided to make getting to and from the park a nightmare experience instead. Maybe Disney should do some marketing research and gather some consumer data. If Disney is so financially strapped that they can no longer provide this courtesy service, charge for Magical Express, but don’t eliminate it. So sad. Walt would be heartbroken at this decision.
Vanessa G. says
Is there a petition we can all create and sign to beg Disney to keep the Magical Express? That was a serious piece of the magic. As soon as I get off of a 5 hour plane ride from California, I knew that everything would be taken care of for me. I actually purchased DVC this year BECAUSE of the Magical Express going to a DVC resort for drop off. I have proof in my receipts of only shopping, dining and staying on Disney property the whole time because I’m too lazy and cheap to book a taxi elsewhere, but I’ll spend $100 more at a restaurant at Disney Springs because I refuse to get transportation. It’s also limited my stays to Disney and I haven’t gone to Universal. For a clan of 4, you can’t even get in an Uber these days due to social distancing rules. That means you have to rent two ubers. Disney please keep your bus drivers employed and keep this magical perk. You will have loyalty to the end of time with people like me if you just keep these types of perks going. And I know payroll is expensive, but with the caring cast members that make up the Disney fam, it’s worth it because guests like me are making unforgettable memories because of them being cheerful and happy. So as a priority please add the Magical Express, and please find a way to bring back Extra Magic Hours for folks staying on property. Make it a real Disney vacation !!
Vanessa G. says
I am reading these comments and I’m so disheartened but feel the warmth that everyone here seems to share the same sentiment. Bring the Magic back Disney!! I wanted to add to my last comment that they also need to make the rooms less sterile, bring back the bed runners! When I purchased DVC this year, DURING the pandemic might I add, my guide told me that Disney would never take away a benefit without adding something back in. I NEVER in a million years thought they would take away the Magical Express. I hope that Disney realizes and remembers that the first time a kid gets off a long plane ride and steps onto the magical express- not even having to wait for luggage, makes the experience magical. Because a minute to a kid is like a thousand years in their minds, and so every minute counts. Their eyes get so big and they smile so wide when they step on and the bus driver cast member greets them. It really is a treat. Please bring back the Magical Express Disney. And bed runners! DisneyFoodblog.com can you start a petition that we can all sign?
Su Goods says
SO UNFORTUNATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Enough said. 🙁 🙁 🙁
MJW says
I think Disney should take a look at how many “POSITIVE” comments are on here.
Let’s see… More family un-friendly. More kid unfriendly. More inconvenient. More expensive. More stressful. More time consuming. LESS MAGICAL!!!
And the “maybe” train… a great alternative… NOT!!! Try to coordinate airline arrival, plan for luggage pickup time, so we can coordinate with the train schedule, then drop us off at Disney Springs, then drag our luggage to the buses, and take a bus to our hotel. WOW. And do the reverse after checkout… 6 hours before our flight. Sounds like a GREAT option. Can’t wait to spend our last day at Disney traveling to the airport, considering unreliable bus scheduling, and then train scheduling. OH yeah Disney… and 2 less days in parks and restaurants, one coming and one going. GREAT!!! We can save money by not spending it on park tickets and food in the parks. VERY SMART DISNEY. I want to talk to Walt.
DanielleV says
I always Lyft from the airport to the resort anyway, but did ride the DME back to the airport.
Engineer10388 says
IT’S ALL ABOUT THE $$$. But the decision is sooo wrong for Orlando traffic, as well as the environment. And it removes yet another reason we had for staying at a costly Disney hotel. Couldn’t they at least wait until the new rail service between MCO and WDW is operational?

I am very upset about the Magical Express stopping. I have been coming to Disney since 1973. I have brought all four of my children and was planning on taking my two grandchildren there. We were there this past Christmas. ALl the shows with actors and dancers were all gone. Half of all the Parks’ attractions were all closed. The ones that were open were 70 to 105 minute wait. Yet, the ticket prices were still high and not discounted for the loss of attractions. With Annual Passes stopped and now ]Magical Express being stopped, and only half of attractions closed, it is no longer worth coming to Disney from Pennsylvania. My children spent all their vacations at Disney, but this will be the end and we will move on to other vacations. Disney used to have the best customer service. Now, I am seeing serious price gauging. ALso, we only saw two to three calvacades at all the parks. NOt the same as the all the floats we saw at the parades. No light shows at Epcot, no show at Animal Kingdom, no fireworks, no character greets for my grandchildren, but a steep price for tickets . . . It is an end of an era for us with going to Disney, not worth the prices you are charging. Never thought I see this happen at Disney.

As a DVC member and annual pass holder this is sad news. When on my latest trip to our favorite escape I noticed how unmagical and different things have gotten. This is just something else to add to it. The prices keep going up and things haven’t been that great. I’m not talking about just now during Covid… I’m not talking about no magic hours, no dining plan, no parades, no fireworks due to Covid. But I’m talking about no real performers any more at Epcot. What happened over there? You let go off kilter and Moroccan and all of the street performers. What happened to the Norway bakery?? Where is all the food that was in there? What happened to Morocco’s restraint? The boardwalk shops and restaurants and almost all closed. And the performers?? Where are they? No magical express that so many people depended on… and Disney keeps raising prices and forgets that it’s families that want to come visit. Families with children. Families which depended on things like the magical express . Families that came to Disney because it was special. Families that were once treated like royalty in Disney world. I have been coming here for over 40 years and sadly this isn’t what Walt imagined. He wanted a place for families to come together. How will that happen when it’s getting so hard to afford and it’s losing its magic?
Frank Haney says
I agree. I have been going to Disney since 1957 (Disneyland) and 1980 (Disney World). I was a Disney fanatic. I started losing that feeling i 2010. It was little things at first. Than major things. Who remembers Osborne Family Lights at Hollywood Studions was there anything more magical than walking through that Park at Christmas. Closing Bear Cuntry at DL for a very lame Winnie Ride. Dirty and unkept rooms at teh Hotels. Removing the single shampoos and soap for wall mounted dispensers. Removing the carpet from room fro harwood floors. Deserts removed from the Dining Plan, Taking away Mickeys hat at HS. But this year has been one of the worst. No more annual pass’s at DL. Magical Express gone. Extended Hours gone, Preformers gone, ever before Covid shows were being reduced. Ticket Prices have gone up at least 4 times in the last three years. Cast Members have not been the same friendly people they once were. (Not that they are all that bad, just not AS friendly as they once were) No fast pass’s on some newer rides, Example you can speen 5 days at HS Studios and never get a boarding pass to Rise of the Resistence. I was planning at trip for Cristmas with several people. My work partner and his family (Thats 4), My Children and Grandchildren that is an aditional 14) that would mean several rooms, Park Tickets, Party pass’s MVMCP, Jingle Jam. 8 of these people would be first time Disney Visitors. If things are not back to normal, with dining plan, fast pass, meet and greets and yes the Magical Express. That trips is off as is any future Disney Park trips. Who wants to spend upwards of a thousnad dollars a day to visit Disney when the Magic is gone. I for one will not.
Patty says
IF IT’S ABOUT MONEY, WHY DOESN’T DISNEY CHARGE US AND LEAVE THE MAGICAL EXPRESS?
chris says
I commented already and have been following the thread and I think there are several common themes. Its a big “magical” part of staying on site that is being taken away when they remove the Magical Expres, one that differentiates Disney from all others in the Area. This statement goes double for those, like me, with kids, it makes an enormous difference not worrying about luggage and how to get to ones resort ( I would even be willing to pay a nominal fee to continue it).
Arlene says
If everyone who comments here would send those same comments to Disney World via email, letter or chat, then Disney would hear your voice. DFB is where we get to tell each other how we feel along with the DFB staff. That does not translate to Disney. You have to contact Disney directly to have your voice heard. Just go to http://www.DisneyWorld.com and click on “contact us”. They are the only ones that can implement any change to their own policies.

I concur, sent them to disney contact form ( did did this already) PLUS when they sent the generic reply back about ME, make sure to reply to that with something like you were hoping for a real person to hear your comments about ME and how its disappointed to lose another benefit

Frank Haney says
Everyone who comments here should go to the Disney site and email them with your thoughts. I agree that the Food Blog will not be read by Disney Staff. When you go to the Disney Park site and go to the contact area. You will see 3 boxes in the upper right hand area. Click the email icon to send a email. It will go directly to the Disney Parks and Resorts section. The normal response takes about 48 hours.
Christine says
Question… I’m seeing specifically that the ME will stop for NEW ARRIVALS in 2022, but what about those staying for New Years? Will we have ME for our arrival, but have to find alternative transportation upon departure, or will ME still be available for departures if we arrived in 2021?
DFB Sarah says
Christine, the “new arrivals” info does make this a little confusing, and we don’t have that answer clearly stated from Disney. If we can find out, I’ll update!
Patty says
A.J;
Are you going to forward all the complains to Disney?
It will be terrible after 8 hours at the airport and the flight, go with our suitcases in a train to Disney Springs, and then take another bus to our hotels.
PLEASE SEND ALL OUR COMPLAINS TO DISNEY, PLEASE!!!
Kimberly says
I know cruising is not happening right now, but what about when it is in 2022? Is there going to be a train line that will be a convenience for the families that want to do both WDW and DCL vacations to Port Canaveral?
DFB Sarah says
Kimberly, info points to the line going through Cocoa, which would not seem to include a stop at cruise departures. But I think we will need to wait until details are solidified before we can say for sure.
David S says
As a DVC member and a yearly pass holder, we continually see the point value shrink each year. What we did in the past with a three to four week vacation, we now see the points buying just barley two weeks. Now that the Magical Express is being removed, for my wife and I some of the Magic is also being removed from a Disney Vacation. We are all shareholders and should have a voice in major changes and this is a major change! This has been a difficult year for all – and we understand Disney has taken a hit. Think of other ways to to increase revenue. My wife is in a wheelchair – How and I suppose to push her and carry luggage and worry about Transportation. The cars and pollution should be enough for the Local officials to sound the alarm. I certainly will be willing to pay a fee for the Magic Express Please continue to write, call and get the word out so that Disney hear us.
Franklin Haney says
David S. I feel the same way, Disney has ost much of the Magic that kept me traveling to a Disney Park. I am not so sure that the va;ue Disney places on Guest Relations is in keeping with Walt’s vision any longer.
Whom ever is making the decisions needs to be replaced, Disney will surly lose many Disney loyals after the recent events come to full light. THhe Magical Express is only one of those issues. I believe it to to a big issue for forlks that travel to Orlando via Air Services. Disney dose not seem to care.
Incourage people to write Directly to Disney, THese blogs do nothing to bring the matter to Disney Corparations attention.

We stayed on property for the first time in 2018, and we were blown away by Magical Express! Our Disney vacation started at my home airport and ended at our home airport! WOW! We bought into DVC for this alone in March 2019. Thankfully we only purchased 100 points. Whew! We wanted to buy more, but not now. I hope DVC brings this magical service back. We are traveling back “home” this May 2021, and we have, for the first time, planning things outside the Disney bubble. Maybe this is a good thing; we will get to see and experience things outside of WDW.
MARI ROSARIO says
ES MUY DIFICIL NO TENER ESE SERVICIO TAN VALIOSOS ESPECIALMENTE PARA PERSONAS CON IMPEDIEMNTO FISICO , ES MUY LAMENTABLE ESA DECISION PUES CAUSARA MUCHO MALESTAR
chris says
@David S says I concur with your comments about Magical Express Cancellation and how its going to work for those with a disability. On a similar point, its similar with kids, you suddenly have to carry all the luggage and your kids and car seats. I think Disney is missing how crucial the Magical Express service is,
I too would be willing to pay for it.
Jim R says
One by one, the things that made Walt Disney World special, magical, and worth the high cost are being taken away. We understand the pandemic has necessarily had an impact on fireworks, Minnie Vans, character interactions, group performances, etc. But killing the Disney Magical Express is huge, and unnecessary. (Ditto for Disney’s previous decision to axe the Main Street Electrical Parade, a unique and iconic feature that practically defined the Magic Kingdom.) I guess the bean counters won, and we lost. We’ve enjoyed over 100 multi-day visits to WDW since it opened, spending a total of months in resort hotels, plus several family members are Platinum DCL cruisers. But the demise of the Magical Express has prompted us to rethink where we want to spend our vacation dollars.
Steph says
Very disappointed Disney has canceled transportation for families traveling to Disney parks. This is a HUGE inconvenience to high paying customers! Also, where are in incentives or perks to staying on property? I hope these issues change quickly .
Jim R says
No matter how nice, fast, and “cool” Brightline is, it will be a poor substitute for Mickey’s Magical Express. MME once provided special luggage tags and service…taking your bags straight from the arriving airline to your WDW Resort Hotel. The train will involve much more luggage hassle plus an additional step to get from the Disney Springs Station to your hotel. And, there will be a gap of at least a year between the end of Magical Express and the beginning of Brightline train service to Disney World. Why couldn’t Disney at least extend Magical Express service until the Brightline is operational, even if it was an extra charge for guests? The bean counters are ruining Disney! Walt would have done better for us.
Joel F says
Tonight I was going to make a new reservation for a 2022 week long Disneyworld vacation. However, I read that there is no longer going to be the “Disney Magical Express” pickup and luggage service starting in 2022, there is no more magic bands, and I am guess next it’ll be no more shuttle service around the parks. It’s ridiculous how much you keep taking away while at the same time continue to charge more for entrance fees, food prices, souvenirs, etc., etc., etc. I would fly my family from LA where I could go to Disneyland solely for the perks and experiences you only could get at Disneyworld, but guess there is no need to go to either park now. I just read the blazing reviews from multiple websites, blogs, YouTube videos, and the list goes on. People are genuinely upset, and rightfully so. It’s obvious you must have a financially vested interest in Briteline which lead to the calculated reason for this decision or you would simply have charged for the “magical Express” service to cover the cost. But dropping this service all together is a deal breaker for many. I was willing to pay more for what I understand to be legitimate increases to keep the bottom line healthy for your company as all companies need to make adjustment to prices from time to time. But this one…this one hurt. We had fun Disneyworld and wished it could have gone on to the next generation, but I guess not.
Signed,
“Won’t See Ya Anytime Soon”
Margaret+Zukoski says
I agree with Joel F 100%…..The sad part is Disney doesn’t care…they never did. It’s just more obvious now….They will keep raising prices and cutting things as long as people continue to pay….and so far, they are willing to pay the ridiculous prices for a lesser experience. Sad.
chris says
I agree with Joel F, 100%. Prices are rising, less perks, and less Disney Magic.
Linda Korteland says
We were supposed to travel to Disneyworld in April 2020, which got cancelled because of Covid. With the airlines in trouble, prices for flights will go up, I’m sure. Prices for food and the hotel stay have already increased. Our oldest son turns 18 this year, so we have to book an extra room next trip: more extra costs. And now we will have to pay for transportation from and to the airport too? What’s next, no free transportation to the parks anymore? This way we won’t ever be able to go anymore.
Thanks Disney, for turning into a family unfriendly company. So, so very disappointed!
Patty Lewis says
We are the Disney patrons. Can’t we at least vote???? Can’t we at least count? This is awful!!!
Wendy Krauss says
DID IT OCCUR TO ANYONE THAT MAYBE THIS WAS A DECISION MADE BY MEARS TRANSPORTATION AND NOT NECESSARILY DISNEY SINCE THEY ARE THE ONES WHO OWN AND OPERATE THE BUSES? Everyone is so fast to blame Disney. MEARS SUPPLIES THE BUSES, DRIVERS INSURANCE GAS ETC JUST MAYBE THEY MADE THE DECISION.
Bob says
Magical Express Service, including baggage handling and airline boarding pass service has been effectively discontinued with no corresponding reduction in Disney Resort or Disney Hotel fees. This clearly shows the level of “greed” that has been adopted by the current Disney management. They have lost their focus on serving the Disney customer and this will result in many fewer Disney vacations, once guests begin to realize the services and benefits they have lost under the current management.
Disney Management has also structured park “wait times” to require multiple park visits to even experience the full Disney Magic in any given park. This has been done to increase park revenues for Disney. Total “wait times” have exceeded 15 hours in in two of the four parks, and this leaves no guest time to eat, see entertainment shows, parades or “fireworks”.
Why even go to Disney for a vacation.
