Do you feel that? That’s the pure and utter joy that I feel about being able to give you this super fun news.
You know I love La Cava del Tequila. You know it’s one of my favorite places in Walt Disney World, with its cozy seating areas, top-of-the-line margaritas, and fun atmosphere.
I’ve talked about this spot on the blog before, but just wanted to share a few more fun photos with you! The line of tequilas…
The cozy lighting…
And these guys. I mean, how can you NOT love this place when they have things like this as decor? I mean…what are these things?
Anyway, La Cava just did something last week that makes me love them even MORE than I already did (I didn’t think it was possible!). During my research trip for the new DFB MiniGuide to Epcot Snacks, I stopped into Cava to check out the appetizer menu (it’s been changing consistently all year).
My favorite item — Queso with Jalapeno — was still on the menu, but I knew I didn’t have time to sit and order. So I asked if it would be possible to have my beloved cheese to go…and they said yes!
I was so excited! Within minutes, the server brought out a to-go container filled with chips and two big “sections” of creamy, melty, spicy queso along with my Pomegranate margarita! Heavenly!
I headed outside and took a few minutes to photograph this wonderful moment! You guys know I live in Texas now, where we have some seriously awesome queso, but La Cava’s is probably my favorite version ever. With large chunks of jalapeno and a lighter cheese than the standard version, this stuff is super spicy and delicious.
Luckily I had the new Pomegranate Margarita to wash it all down! This drink was amazing! Probably one of my new favorite margaritas in Disney World! Very fruity, but not super-sweet…
Overall, I really liked the option to get this dish to go. That said, I have no idea if this is customary for La Cava or if they only do things like this when it’s not too busy.
My advice to you: if you’d like an appetizer to go, try to catch them at a less-busy time, and always ask politely. They may not be able to comply, but I imagine they’ll try their best.
If they’re unable to fulfill your order, remember that they do serve Nachos over at La Cantina de San Angel across the promenade!
What are your favorite appetizers at La Cava del Tequila? Let us know in the comments below!

I second the recommendation to try asking for appetizers to go politely and when La Cava del Tequila is not too busy. We asked about ordering queso to go during the Food & Wine Festival when there was a line to get in to La Cava and were told it wasn’t possible. We’ll have to carve out some time to sit down at Disney World’s best margarita spot on our next visit because I still really want to try the queso!

I love La Cava but haven’t spent much time there because the last time I was in Epcot I was pregnant! We stopped in just to get a cold (non-alcoholic) drink. It’s such a cozy spot though for hanging out with friends and chatting, if I lived in town I could see myself being a regular there! That queso looks great and I love that you mentioned it was super spicy! I love some heat to my queso! I think if I get to stop in here in February I’ll try the pomegranate margarita and I’ll HAVE to try the guacamole!
btw, I think those are plush chihuahuas!

I love, love, love La Cava! Their jalapeno margarita is amazing and their guacamole is excellent too.
I agree that the to-go option is probably not standard. Based on the DFB, I tried to get Le Cellier’s cheese soup to go last week. It was a slow week and I very politely tried several different CMs at different times and each time I was told it was not possible. 🙁

As the author of a book on civility in society, I think it’s ALWAYS a good idea to ask politely! LOL
Meanwhile, I want the crab tostados! I need to stop reading this blog because every time I do, I add ANOTHER place I have to visit during my week in early January!
PS: How awesome is it that they have that special for their twitter followers?

Is the queso vegetarian?
I am headed to Disney on my honeymoon in Oct, and would dearly love to sample the queso at the Hacienda de San Angel as well, but am wondering if they would make a vegetarian version for me…
AJ says
Jen — I’m really not sure on this one! I’ll ask Cava on twitter.
Jen says
I asked them — they were confused by the definition of vegetarian and the difference between that and veganism (weird in this day and age) but confirmed it’s vegetarian – no meat 🙂 yay!

I don’t suppose the queso ison the dining plan as a snack credit or even a counter service credit is it? If not, I’m just gonna have to pay for it out of pocket when I’m there next year. I love queso.

Hi! Is this place child friendly, or is it a bar over 21 only?

Heather — It’s child friendly!
