Getting a boarding group for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, one of Disney World’s most popular attractions, can be one of the more difficult things you do throughout your entire Disney World trip.
You’ll want to keep in mind those new Boarding Group distribution times, get everything set up in the My Disney Experience app ahead of time, and ask for some help from the Force. If you’re lucky enough to get a Boarding Group, the key is then to return in time to ride the attraction. How much time do you have to get back to Rise once your group is called? Well, we actually noticed a bit of a change with that today.
After you get your Boarding Group, the My Disney Experience app will show you your estimated return time. If/once your group is called to ride Rise of the Resistance, you then have a certain amount of time to return to the entrance of the attraction. It’s key that you return within the allotted time frame to make sure you can get on the ride.
Recently, the rule has been that guests have 1 hour to get back to Rise of the Resistance when their group is called. The Disney World website specifies that “You’ll have up to an hour from the time of the alert to go to the entrance of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.”
But, when we got a Rise of the Resistance Boarding Group this morning, we noticed that the My Disney Experience app showed us something a bit different. Here’s a look at the page we got once we were assigned a Boarding Group. It specified that we were placed in Group 25 and our estimated return was 200 minutes. At the bottom you’ll see a “What’s Next?” portion…
…and that’s where the big change is. Under the “What’s Next?” heading, the app now says “Return to the experience entrance within 80 minutes of when your group is called, then scan your MagicBand or card to enter.” That’s an increase of 20 minutes in the return time.
That extra time can provide guests with some additional flexibility in case their group gets called when they’re in the middle of waiting in a long line at another attraction, eating at a restaurant, or doing something else that would otherwise cause them to potentially be a little bit late in returning to Rise of the Resistance. In the past, guests have reported two to three hour return windows, so it seems Disney may be testing out potentially increasing the current 60 minute return time frame to give guests more time.
Note that the Disney website does still specify that guests have up to an hour, but the app is what showed us this “80 minutes” return time. We’re not sure if this is just something new we experienced today or whether it will be sticking around.
The next time you sign up for a Boarding Group, be sure to check if the My Disney Experience app also shows you this “80 minutes” return time and screenshot it just in case. If it doesn’t show you the “80 minutes” return time, then Disney’s current 60 minute return time is the rule you’d need to follow, unless that ultimately is changed on Disney’s website as well. We’ll continue to keep an eye out for more information on this and let you know what we see.
