It might surprise you just how much work Disney has going on behind the scenes!
We tend to keep an eye on all the different building permits that Disney is filing to see what kind of work they might be doing that would impact guests — visible AND behind-the-scenes. Well, we spotted a few signs of construction on some of your favorite attractions!
Disney typically files dozens of permits every week and some are more interesting than others. Today, we’re looking at a few permits that might mean maintenance on some high-profile attractions. You likely won’t see this work as a guest, so it’s a peek BEHIND THE SCENES!
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
First up, Disney recently filed a permit for a “Door Installation” at the address coded to Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT. This permit was filed by Walt Disney Imagineering with the aptly named contractor, Florida Door Solutions.
Typically when a permit is filed by Imagineering, it means it directly has to do with Imagineering plans. So, though this may just be some sort of boring old door, it could also be a piece of the attraction itself. After all, in most cases, you don’t need an entirely separate contractor just to do the doors.
As a note, Florida Door Solutions primarily specializes in residential and commercial garage doors. Maybe the attraction will feature an impressive bay door or something?! Or maybe it’s an offstage door?! Whatever the case, progress is progress!
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is set to be an indoor roller coaster based on (you guessed it) the Guardians of the Galaxy. It will feature an omnicoaster ride system and a reverse launch. Pretty cool! Come through, Florida Door Solutions!

Splash Mountain
The second attractions permit we spotted is for the address coded to Splash Mountain in Magic Kingdom. We are on high alert for Splash Mountain permits since we know the ride will be rethemed to The Princess and the Frog soon. We just don’t know when! Don’t panic though, this permit probably doesn’t signal an impending closure.
The permit is for “Electrical Work” with Maddox Electric. It’s also filed by Walt Disney World Resort, not Imagineering who is in charge of the retheme.
Maddox Electric does a lot of regularly scheduled maintenance around Disney World. In fact, it’s one of the most common contractors we see Disney file. It’s not super typical to see attractions get a lot of work, but rides are complex buildings that need some upkeep once in a while.
Good to know Disney is keeping everything ship-shape; or should we say log-shape?

Expedition Everest
And finally, we spotted a permit for the address coded to Expedition Everest in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Specifically, the address references the Expedition Everest “Queue Village.”
This one is filed with Grunau Company for “General Construction.” Grunau Company is another one that we see a lot for maintenance and such. The Expedition Everest queue is SUPER detailed so it makes sense that Disney might hire a contractor to perform the work.
Grunau Company specializes in fire protection. No wonder we see Disney filing with them so often! Keeping Expedition Everest from burning down seems like a pretty high-priority task.
Behind-the-scenes peeks like this give us some idea as to just how much work and money it takes to maintain one attraction!
Did you know Expedition Everest was evacuated recently? Take a look!Â
These permits sure are interesting. It’s pretty cool to get a glimpse at the kind of upkeep Disney is constantly doing behind the scenes to keep things ready for guests. We’ll continue to keep an eye on Disney permits so stay tuned to DFB for all the latest updates!
