Disney has been creating tales of true love for a long time and we love watching all of the films.
Many of us first heard of true love’s kiss when watching films like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. And then we kept hearing about true love over and over again in Disney movies. But, were you paying attention during all of those Disney movies? Like realllly paying attention? We know there was a lot of “true love” needed to those break spells, but not all Disney spells are created the same so we took to our Instagram Stories to test your knowledge.
We asked one of the trickier questions we could think of to our followers — In which Disney movie is true love NOT required to break a spell or curse?
It’s Princess and the Frog! Did you get it right? Before you take to Google to prove us wrong, let’s do a quick Disney princess movie refresher. In Sleeping Beauty, Aurora pricks the needle that Maleficient had doused with a sleeping curse. To break the spell, someone had to fall deeply in love with the sleeping princess and give her a true love’s kiss — enter Prince Charming.
In Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, the Beast was pretty full of himself so an enchantress cursed him to be an “ugly” beast until he found it in his heart to love someone besides himself. Just when the cursed clan in the castle thought they were doomed to being household items forever, Belle comes around, and the two fall in love. The curse is broken just in the nick of time with true love.
Now for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Maleficent must have taken a page out of the Evil Queen’s book for that sleep spell because that’s what was used on Snow White. But, this time a poisonous apple was the vessel for the curse. You know how parents say don’t take candy from a stranger? This has to be where that came from, right? In order to break the curse, she needed a true love’s kiss — enter the prince…wait, is Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs basically the same movie as Sleeping Beauty?! That’s a question for another day… .
And, that takes us to the correct answer to our question — Princess and the Frog. In the movie, Prince Naveen gets turned into a frog, mistakes Tiana for a true princess, kisses her, and turns her into a frog too. Whoops! But it wasn’t the lack of love at first sight that caused the malfunction, Naveen needed to kiss a TRUE PRINCESS to break the spell. Of course, he stumbles upon true love with Tiana through it all though.
There you have it! The answer to our tricky question is really a technicality and everyone finds true love at the end thanks to some Disney magic (or writing). We’ve got some pretty smart followers over on Instagram so the majority (59% to be exact) did actually guess right on this one! Think you could take on these tricky questions but don’t follow us? I don’t recall Belle kissing the Beast to break his spell. She just said she loved him. Now I’m taking this from the animated version so if you are referring to a different version or a book I could be wrong. But I’m pretty sure he turns back into the prince without a kiss.

I was going to say “Tangled” but then I realized that Flynn was saved by her true love for him.

Got one. Kida from Atlantis – The Lost Empire. She is a Princess, and technically did not need true love to save her
