2021 is Disney World’s 50th anniversary!
To celebrate, we’re getting new costumes for Mickey and Minnie and even a ride’s grand opening! The celebration will be 18 months long, and we can’t wait for it to kick off on October 1st! But a HUGE part of the anniversary are the mini-transformations coming to each of the park’s icons, and today, we got a closer look at one of them.
Cinderella Castle, the Tower of Terror, Spaceship Earth, and the Tree of Life are all getting a makeover for the anniversary! And while all of them will be temporary — with the exception of Spaceship Earth — Disney’s putting a LOT of detail into each look. Today, Imagineer Zach Riddley shared a behind-the-scenes peek at the decor package for Cinderella Castle’s makeover!
Cinderella Castle will get an EARidescent rose gold paint finish as well as jewels, swags, and bunting. Ribbons in royal blue and gold will drape the turrets and towers.
Riddley says the “gold detailing and vibrant hues” draw inspiration from Mary Blair’s vision of the Cinderella film. Take a look here!
Riddley notes that work will begin on this transformation “in the weeks and months to come.” We’ll keep an eye out — we can’t wait to watch the progress! We’ll keep you posted with more Disney news and updates, so stay tuned to DFB.

I MAY be the only one to think it, but I think that we will all look at this new 50th castle makeover the way we look at the 25th cake. These over the top ear – a desscent colors are just too gaudy and in the bright sunshine… just EW. I was never a fan of Sleeping Beauty’s pinky hue either, but these over shinies are just too much.

Can’t wait to see it!!!! I am rarely entirely disappointed in Disney design. More often in awe. It like everything has highs and lows but I find some level of appreciation in the thoughtful work no matter what. Cheers to Disney for carrying on in a new normal continuing to create beautiful family centered entertainment.
