One of the coolest features of Disney World’s PhotoPass is being able to see your on-ride photos.
Whether you’re screaming on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, or screaming on Tower of Terror, or maybe you’re screaming on Expedition Everest — Disney’s there to capture it all. These photos are great souvenirs to bring home to always remember some of your favorite rides from Disney World. Now, Disney is testing a new feature that will make it even easier to keep track of your photos.
Today, while in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we got a notification from the My Disney Experience App letting us know about a new feature.
This new feature is in pilot right now, so they’re just testing it out for the time being.
The new feature is meant to allow attraction photos to be linked automatically through the My Disney Experience App!Â
Disney has already been automatically linking some attraction photos for guests who are wearing a MagicBand while on the ride through the use of RFID technology. Some locations also have PhotoPass spots at the end of the ride where you can tap your MagicBand or card to link your photos.
But, with this feature you won’t need to wear your MagicBand at all or tap it anywhere. Instead, the photos will automatically link to your My Disney Experience account through your mobile device.
For this new feature to work, the Bluetooth on your phone must be enabled for the My Disney Experience App prior to riding the attraction. The notice said that the new feature is being tested specifically for Tower of Terror and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at the moment, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for any testing done in other parks.
We’ll be looking out for any new updates throughout Disney World, so be sure to check back with us!

When we were there Jan5-16 2021, they had it tracking with our Disney wrist bands, and we did not have to scan them anywhere. The employees said that it would just automatically add to our photopass account in a few minutes. There were signs covering the existing scan stations, that said it will automatically detect your wrist bands. So being able to detect your phone app too, is nice.

So now I’m confused. My husband and I visited Disney World in December 2020, and we had no idea we were supposed to tap our MagicBands against the PhotoPass spot after getting off the rides with photos, so we didn’t. However, all of our ride photos showed up in our MDE account anyway, without any problems. Was this because we had bought Memory Maker before our trip?

Tre, I’m having an editor revisit the post. Most attractions used long-range RFID to connect with a guest’s MagicBand, thus connecting the on-ride photos with the guest’s account. That long-range RFID is why you and your husband received your photos. The new feature would be a way to connect the photos to a guest without requiring a MagicBand.

PJ, yes, thanks for sharing your experience.
