Disney World is going through a lot of changes right now.
The parks aren’t just getting new attractions like TRON Lightcycle Run, some beloved attractions are also due for major refurbishments! One such ride is the Jungle Cruise in Magic Kingdom (and Disneyland too). A start date for the Jungle Cruise work has not been announced — but construction could be starting soon.
This morning, Walt Disney Imagineering filed a permit for the address coded to the Jungle Cruise in Magic Kingdom. The permit is for “modifications and enhancements to include demo and installation of structural support, hardscapes, [and] electrical.”
This is pretty MAJOR work. Even if it isn’t work on the new scenes and theming for the ride, demolition is typically a large-scale endeavor. This permit very likely signals the first step in the upcoming Jungle Cruise retheme.
As a reminder, the Jungle Cruise refurbishment is not a complete reimagining of the ride. Instead, a few scenes will be added to put the skippers even MORE at the forefront and to remove some negative depictions. The ride will feature new characters led by a skipper of their very own who have found themselves stranded in the wild jungles.
Now, the contractor that the permit is filed with is Albu & Associates, Inc. This company is a general contractor that typically works on office buildings and retail. So, this work permit and work probably doesn’t have to do with any design or theming elements. Instead, it may be the basis for these elements. After all new structural support could be needed for the new scenes!
Another important detail to note is that the expiration date for the work is January 29th, 2022. Keep in mind that this doesn’t necessarily give us an idea of when the entire refurbishment will be complete. Remember that this permit seems to be for support more than theming so the full refurbishment could take much longer. Also, keep in mind that Disney has already shared that refurbishments will begin “later this year.”
Typically, these permits are filed a few days or weeks prior to the start of a project. So, we’ll be keeping a VERY close eye on the Jungle Cruise and news about it in the near future. And we will be watching closely to see when Disney shared more information. Stay tuned to DFB for all the updates!

Sounds like it will be awesome, just sad that more things aren’t going to be ready for the anniversary on October 1.
