We’ve seen quite a few updates made recently regarding COVID-19 and reopening regulations.

In California, we’ve gotten updated theme park reopening guidelines and seen how vaccination eligibility will soon be expanding. And now we’ve got a big update on gatherings with regards to California’s rules.

California has been utilizing a colored tier system as part of its reopening plan. Each county in the state is placed in a different colored tier depending on various factors including infection rates.

According to KRON 4 News, California recently made some BIG updates to its tiered reopening system which will allow for indoor concerts, theater performances, and more. According to the new rules, beginning April 15th outdoor gatherings for up to 25 people will be allowed for those in counties in the Red Tier.

That gathering size can then increase to 50 for those in the Orange Tier, and 100 for those in the Yellow Tier. If your county is in the Purple Tier, only outdoor gatherings are allowed and they will be limited to 3 households.

Indoor gatherings are strongly discouraged for all of the tiers, but they will be allowed (with modifications and capacity limits) in every tier except the Purple Tier under these updated rules.

Separate updates will also become effective April 15th for private events and meetings (like receptions or conferences). These events will be allowed to different degrees in the various tiers with capacity limits and other modifications.

In terms of indoor live events or performances, starting April 15th these activities will be allowed in the Red, Orange, and Yellow Tiers with capacity limits and other restrictions like physical distancing, attendance limited to in-state visitors, and other things.

For example, for venues with a capacity of up to 1,500 people, in the Red Tier capacity will be limited to 10% of capacity, or at maximum 100 people total. But, capacity can increase to 25% if all guests are tested for COVID-19 or show proof of full vaccination.

According to Dr. Mark Ghaly, the Secretary of the California Health and Human Services Agency, today’s update “is a result of the progress we are making both in vaccinations and in controlling the spread of COVID-19.”

At the moment, the Disneyland Resort theme parks are set to reopen on April 30th. Orange County, where Disneyland is located, has also entered the Orange Tier.
