Disney artists create some pretty awesome things. We’ve watched them create realistic-looking chalk art in real-time and even paint portraits of Mickey ridiculously quickly.
Earlier this year, we saw artists turn a 40-ton pile of sand into a sculpture dedicated to Raya and the Last Dragon. And it was so incredible, we’re still wondering how they did it. Now, we’ve got another sand creation to marvel at in Disney’s Animal Kingdom!
We spotted artists working on ANOTHER pile of sand at the Discovery Island Stage in Animal Kingdom. And they were busy carving new shapes into it!
It didn’t take us long to realize that these shapes are whales! Look at the incredible details — and the artists have just started!
So, why whales? Well, it turns out that this sculpture is promoting Secrets of the Whales, a National Geographic series on Disney+ that’s produced by James Cameron and narrated by Sigourney Weaver. The series will take us deep into the ocean depths to look at life from the perspective of five different whale species. SO COOL!
And yes, we’re totally channeling Dory right now because we speak whale, too! 😆
Don’t miss the premiere of Secrets of the Whales on Disney+ on April 22nd. We’ll be sure to share updated photos to show the progress of this WHALE of a sculpture!
