Disney World is constantly changing!
Sometimes we see those changes coming and sometimes we don’t. Last month, a few things definitely caught us off guard. Here are the three most unexpected things that happened in Disney World in March!
1. Magic Kingdom started testing facial recognition for park entry.
First up, Disney announced and then started testing the use of facial recognition for park entry. Previously, touchpads were used with a finger scan. Facial recognition could potentially add a touchless option.
As of right now, this is just a test. Guests can opt into testing the new feature. All you do then is scan your MagicBand, park ticket, or Magic Mobile Pass as usual and then look at a screen for your face scan. The tech uses facial recognition to verify your ticket and then you can head into the park.
We will, of course, be keeping a close eye on its development and whether it returns after its testing period.

2. An iconic snack got a BIG price increase.
We were delighted to find out that the Adventureland Spring Roll Cart reopened from a few months of closure in Magic Kingdom but NOT so delighted to find that one of our favorite snacks, the Spring Rolls, had received a MAJOR price increase.
We love swinging by this spot for a taste of Cheeseburger Spring Rolls, Pepperoni Pizza Spring Rolls, or whatever other flavors they have on the menu. Now though, we have to pay a whopping $2 extra for this yummy snack.
Before the cart closed, Spring Rolls were priced at $7.50 for two. Now, you’ll have to fork up $9.50 for two. Whew!

3. Main Street, U.S.A. is seeing some LENGTHY refurbishments.
Main Street, U.S.A. has some pretty awesome shops on it. We could definitely spend a while wandering the stores! Well, we were pretty surprised this month when it was announced that a FEW Main Street, U.S.A. locations were closing for refurbishment!
Main Street Confectionery closed its doors for a lengthy refurbishment through at least June and The Chapeau closed for some time as well. In the meantime, some of the other shops have treats and hats stocked.
These stores could be getting a pick-me-up for the 50th Anniversary in October. We can’t wait to see what work is being done!
