Did you know Disney dabbles in community-building?
Most recently, Disney has been at work developing Flamingo Crossings Town Center, a community that will include shopping, dining, and housing. And in the past, they’ve developed both the Celebration and Golden Oak communities in the area. But now, it seems like the company’s looking ahead, as they are in talks to build yet another mixed-use community.
According to the Orlando Business Journal, The Walt Disney Company is currently in early discussion with Tavistock Development about developing a commercial and residential community in Lake Nona. The community in question is about 18 miles from Disney World, making it a bit farther than Disney’s other projects. Yet conversations are still in the works.
According to city documents, Tavistock has plans to develop 4,192 residential units and 2.4 million square feet of nonresidential space in the area — but it’s uncertain whether this is referring to Disney’s potential community.
Lisa Dilts, principal of Winter Park-based real estate advisory company Compspring LLC, suggested that the development could be successful due to Disney’s penchant for placemaking, which could attract residents looking for that strong sense of place in a home. She also explains that Disney’s involvement will likely attract international and out-of-state buyers.
Keep in mind that this deal between Disney and Tavistock may not occur — the discussion is in the preliminary stages. But we’ll keep an eye out for further updates and keep you posted! Stay tuned to DFB for more Disney news.

The area is slated to become the largest park in Orlando, so perhaps Tavistock wants to bring in Disney to expand on that.

Stay away. Disney did such a poor job with construction at Celebration, they walked away. The new owner has fleeced the homeowners for every dime with assessments that cost more than the condo they purchased.
