They will NEVER call it a Pride collection. Take notice. As inoffensive as the try to be, they don’t have gender neutral infant/baby clothes either.

Jackie, you know, I was wondering about the language, too. I see in the Disney Parks Blog that announced the collection, it’s called Pride: “in celebration of Pride Month 2021 and the company’s Pride collection”. It may just be my perception, but I think they’re using Pride language more this year, though the collection is still referred to as the Rainbow Collection. It makes me wonder if they’re using Rainbow Collection as a nod to the Rainbow Connection (can we all hear Kermit singing this?). Either way, the diction is interesting.

I remember the time when the pride flag was something special, not just a corporate cash cow.

Good thing Johnny is that Disney is donating parts of the proceeds to GLSEN and other amazing LGBTQIA+ charities and organizations.
Kermit the Frog is interesting on how that’s your first thought about the wording. People in the gay community automatically chime in their brains when we hear “rainbow” or “pride month” as being June and gay. I am not super offended that they haven’t added gay into the title, because even if you put that I am sure one group within the gay community will be offended.
It’s finally great to see Disney doing these collections outwardly since 2018. We had always had an “unofficial” gay days where we wear red shirts to the parks to identify ourselves as LGBTQIA+, but now Disney is making it official and it’s special for us gay Disney adults!
I wanted to see more designs though. It feels like a lot of straight people designed these merch items and it would be cool to see a group of LGBTQIA+ designing cool and fun shirts. There could be a scenario where a Disney fan is not out yet and too afraid…. so maybe a not so rainbow in your face shirt for the closeted gay Disney adults wouldn’t be too bad. Or a cool graphic tshirt where it doesn’t have “Gay” or “rainbow” on it, but it has a reference like, “RAISED BY TIMON AND PUMBA AND I TURNED OUT FINE!” More design and less rainbow on white or black background.
