Earlier this year, Disney World discontinued FREE MagicBands for guests at its resort hotels.
There Are Lots of MagicBand Designs to Choose From
Annual Passholders could still grab a free MagicBand with Annual Pass purchases (not currently available except in certain specific cases) and renewals. Soon, however, that will all be changing.
According to an email sent by Disney to passholders recently, Disney will “no longer be offering complimentary MagicBands with Annual Pass purchases and renewals made August 16, 2021 and beyond.”

In the email, Disney specifically discusses how they introduced the MagicMobile service earlier this year, which is a way to essentially use your phone as a MagicBand for many features throughout Disney World. Right now, you can already use your phone to scan your ticket to enter the parks and to connect your on-ride photos to your My Disney Experience account.

Disney notes that as guests continue to discover this new MagicMobile option, they will be no longer be providing free MagicBands to Annual Passholders.
Annual Passholders will, however, continue to receive a discount on MagicBands purchased and Disney has noted that there will be more designs to choose from in the future.

Annual Passholders will be able to continue using their current or newly purchased MagicBands, their Annual Pass Card, or MagicMobile throughout their visits.
Also Disney has shared that new MagicMobile pass designs exclusive to Passholders will be coming soon with designs featuring Orange Bird and Figment!

Where do you get your annual pass card? I haven’t had a card in years?
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again,
I will use my phone for these purposes only when I’m forced to, and maybe not even then.
It is far more inconvenient than a Magic Band.
I know there are many people who use their phone for EVERYTHING, but I’m not one of them.
PS: How can something be “more contactless”?! Either it is contactless or it isn’t!
