There are quite a few different forms of transportation you can use to get around Disney World including Disney buses, boats, the monorail, and one of Disney’s latest forms of transportation — the Skyliner.
Recently, the Skyliner’s operating hours were adjusted for one day, and now we’ve got some news about an upcoming Skyliner CLOSURE that you need to know about.
Earlier today, we spoke with a Cast Member via chat who noted that the Disney Skyliner is set to be out of operation for refurbishment from January 23rd, 2022 through January 28th, 2022.
The Cast Member shared that this will affect ALL of the resorts on the Skyliner, but bus transportation (and Friendship boat service for those hotels that offer that form of transportation) should be available for these resorts during the Skyliner closure.
UPDATE: The Disney World website now has a note about this refurbishment. Disney’s notice on the website for Disney’s Beach Club Resort specifically states that during this period Skyliner service between Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Riviera Resort, and EPCOT will be out of operation.
This refurbishment is currently scheduled for January of NEXT year which is pretty far away. As always, refurbishment details and dates are subject to change, and we may get further information or updates as the refurbishment dates get closer.
But, for now, keep in mind that if you’ve got a trip scheduled for January of 2022 during these dates and you’re planning to stay at a hotel with Skyliner access, there is some refurbishment scheduled to take place during that time.
We’ll keep an eye out for more information and let you know what we find.

I can’t even believe the Skyliner is going to be closed in January 2022! I just made reservations for January 21-31 at Pop Century because they have the Skyliner access. Two grand babies in strollers and myself on a scooter due to medical complications! I can’t tell you how bummed I am!

This sound more like scheduled maintenance vs refurbishment.

Does Skyliner accommodate scooters?
DFB Sarah says
Christine, Skyliner does accommodate scooter/ECVs/wheelchairs. Look for signage (or ask a Cast Member) for designated loading areas for each line.

Hoping they are fixing the issue that has caused breakdowns and collisions. I read where the issue has to do with the merge points at the Handicap access “siding”. There was an article that inferred there were issues because Doppelmayr (The manufacturer had not previously done that set up. With the short use life it would seem some sort of system adjustment or correction would make sense.
