When Disney World first reopened, a number of restaurants reopened with it, but others remained closed. Over the past few months we’ve seen more restaurants become available to guests again and soon another spot will join the group!
Recently, Disney announced that character dining will be coming back to Disney’s Animal Kingdom this summer, and now we’ve got more details!
Ready to enjoy a meal with Donald Duck and his friends in Animal Kingdom? Then you’ll be thrilled to know that Tusker House Restaurant is set to reopen in Disney’s Animal Kingdom on…June 20!
The restaurant previously served its meals buffet-style, but note that when Tusker House reopens it will be serving a family-style menu with African-inspired flavors. So far, official menus haven’t been shared, but we have gotten a look at some pictures that appear to show some of the food that will be available for breakfast…
…and for what will be likely lunch and/or dinner.
Tusker House will be a character dining location, with friends like Donald Duck and others making an appearance. We expect it will be much like the other modified character dining experiences available in Disney World right now, where the characters greet guests from a distance.
Reservations for Tusker House will become available on Friday, June 4th, so be sure to mark those calendars!
We’ll continue to keep an eye out for more details and we’ll let you know what we find. Stay tuned for all the latest!

This menu is completely disappointing compared to their former buffet! I can get Mickey waffles, scrambled, eggs, potatoes, and sausage at any value resort for $12! Throw in a questionable chicken dish, some bread and fruit and call it a $50 meal??? Not likely! Disney is continuing to downsize all of its menu options but increase prices. I had no problem paying $200 for my family to dine here previously when my children could hug a character, get an autograph, a picture and a great meal in air conditioning. They had a carving station, that awesome bread pudding, a huge selection of delectable pastries, a fruit bar, wonderful vegetarian dishes (and I’m not a vegetarian!), a cereal bar, quiches, bobities, and more! And you’re excited over this???? Disney needs to bring back the magic and expanded menus! We ended up cancelling our last two reservations because we were tired of the stale menus and headed to Cracker Barrel for some menu diversity. How sad! We used to plan, dream, and drool months in advance over what we would eat in the restaurants, but even after securing hard to get reservations, it wasn’t enough diversity to make a pleasing dining experience. There are very few breakfast options offered that have not been extremely modified with scaled back menus. Mickey waffles, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and potatoes were the go to offered for every breakfast meal. I scoffed at the naysayers who said the magic is gone to this point, but after returning from our vacation this last week, they are right. We stayed on property and there are STILL no extra magic HALF hours as promised MONTHS ago, no fast passes, 40 minute lines in the extreme heat, very limited and repeated menus across the board (thank goodness for the Landry’s restaurants!), no character contact, and less customer service by the many cast members who are still scrambling to be trained. Admittedly, I was disappointed and can’t say it is a good time to go to Disney based on their current value of their customers. I’m glad my family had a Disney vacation, many can’t afford it or can’t go due to health reasons, but I would not do it again any time soon with the unmanaged crowds and diminished experiences. It just wasn’t as fun and enjoyable as it used to be. 🙁
