We’ve been tasting our way through all the Father’s Day treats that have popped up in Disney World recently. But, every once in a while we need a little break — we’re only human after all!
So, between bites of Darth Vader Cakes, bacon-covered cupcakes, and more, we stopped by the Morocco Pavilion in EPCOT to try out some other sweet treats at Oasis Sweets & Sips!
Now, this little sweet shop can be easy to miss because it’s tacked onto the end of the Morocco Pavilion’s storefronts near World Showcase Lagoon, but it’s not one that you want to miss out on! Here you can find a variety of alcoholic (and non-alcoholic) drinks and pastries — which is what we came for!
Here you can get Assorted Moroccan Pastries that lets you order one for $2.50, three for $6.50, five for $11, or seven for $15. So, it is a bit more a la carte and can be great if you’ve got a picky eater or want to try a few different treats on your way around World Showcase.
Now, there were a few new menu items here including the Almond Grieba, Semolina Orange Basbousa Cake, Mosaic Cookie With Apricot Jam, and Coconut-Pistachio Ghrieba, so we opted to order five total and snuck in the (not new) Almond Briwat too. And, what makes these pastries great is that they come in a to-go box making it easy to save more for later.
So, let’s dig in, shall we?
First up is the Almond Ghrieba, which is a type of Moroccan cookie and is covered in powdered sugar. The one thing to keep in mind about this cookie is that it’s not overly sweet, so it can be a great option for those of you who don’t want the sugar rush that you might get from other Disney desserts. Though, don’t let that fool you — this cookie is not all that light on the stomach.
When we bit in, we were pleased to find that it was soft and had a nice texture to it. But, the only thing we wish there was more of was almond flavor! We could taste it by the last bite, but it was more of a slow-building flavor.
Next up was the Semolina Orange Basbousa Cake. This treat is a popular dessert in the Middle East and is traditionally made with coconut and seminola and then soaked in a flavored sugar syrup that gives it more of a sweet taste. And, we must say that it was delicious.
We really liked the addition of the orange flavor and its sponge-like texture made this guy VERY easy to eat. You could also get a lot of the coconut flavor with each bite, though we would have liked this dessert even more if the orange was the main highlight.
The prettiest dessert that we got was definitely the Mosaic Cookie With Apricot Jam. Just look at that intricate detail!
Now, we enjoyed the pairing of the apricot and chocolate flavor in this one, but sadly that mosaic was more of a good-looker than a good-taster. It is a fondant-like layer that really didn’t add much flavor to the pastry, but it did add some texture that we would have preferred to do without.
And, we’re not done yet! We also gave the new Coconut-Pistachio Ghrieba a try and, let us tell ya, this was VERY different from the other ghrieba that we tried. The pastry had much more of a macaroon-like feel to it and sadly the pistachio flavor was MIA.
The flavor that was there was the coconut — and there was a LOT of it! So, if you’re a big fan of coconut then this is the pastry for you! Otherwise, you might want to steer clear.
And, for our fifth pastry, we got the Almond Briwat which we’ve tried before. It is a sweet puff pastry with almonds and it’s always a winner in our book. It was the sweetest of the five pastries and had the familiar flakey and yummy flavor that we remembered.
All in all, we were not disappointed by all the new pastries that have arrived at Oasis Sweets & Sips. In fact, we’ll probably be back for more! Though, next time we’re hoping that coffee has returned to the pavilion so we can dip all the sweet treats in! They certainly aren’t your normal Disney World treats, so stop by this shop if you’re looking for something a bit different than the traditional cupcake and ice cream.
Of course, we’ll be trying more eats and drinks around Disney World in no time, so stay tuned to DFB for more!

Is there a barista like the old Tangerine Cafe where someone could get Moorish coffee with one of those awesome pastries? 😎

Can Disney get any more tone-deaf? Morocco is an Islamic country. Islam forbids alcohol. So why in heck would Disney be promoting alcohol as representative of that country? What’s Next? Bacon at a Disney-run Israel booth? Steak at an India booth controlledby Disney? Surely a little cultural sensitivity isn’t beyond the current money-grab mentality! Or at least one would hope.

I would definitely get some baklava as I love that pastry and it’s not that easy to find.
