You may have noticed that Disney dropped a lot of BIG news today about their 50th Anniversary celebration, starting October 1st!
Some of what we know about this celebration is fairly standard (although still exciting), like the Cinderella Castle makeover and new outfits for the Disney characters! But a few of the announcements were kinda unexpected!
Here are some of the announcements Disney World made about their 50th Anniversary celebration that you may not have seen coming!
A Series of Golden Statues
Disney announced not one, not two, but FIFTY golden statues that will be unveiled as part of the celebration!
The series of golden sculptures is called the “Disney Fab 50,” quite a jump from the traditional “Fab 5” of Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto! Disney hasn’t said all of the characters that will be featured in this series, but we do know we’ll see Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto, and Chip ‘n’ Dale in Disney’s Magic Kingdom! These statues will be interactive and sprinkled throughout all 4 parks!
You can read MORE about these new statues here!
A New Daytime Show in Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Disney also announced a new show for Animal Kingdom, called Disney KiteTails, which will run during the day and feature elaborate windcatchers and kites! This new show will debut on October 1st!
The show will run to classic Disney songs and take place in the Discovery River Amphitheater. The concept reminds us a little of Finding Nemo: The Musical show from Animal Kingdom, only taking place in the air instead of on a stage! We can’t wait to see it!

A New Cavalcade
A new cavalcade featuring Mickey, Minnie, and the gang in their new outfits was announced, but it’s what wasn’t announced here that’s really interesting.
For such a big event, many readers and guests were kind of expecting a new parade to be announced — if not a new one then maybe the return of Disney’s pre-closure parades? With Disney’s announcement of new cavalcades for the celebration, it seems like it might be a little while longer until traditional parades return.

Disney Enchantment Show at Magic Kingdom
Today, Disney announced a new fireworks show for Magic Kingdom. We weren’t too shocked by this…BUT, there’s a pretty interesting detail that was announced for the show! This nighttime spectacular at Disney’s Magic Kingdom will feature new fireworks, beautiful lights, Disney music, and something we haven’t seen before in the parks…
…”immersive projection effects that extend from Cinderella Castle down Main Street, U.S.A..” We’ve seen the beautiful light projections on the Cinderella Castle, but this show will continue with projections down Main Street, U.S.A. as well!

Honorable Mention: A New Disney World Book Series
Disney World is releasing 5 new books in honor of the 50th-anniversary celebration, including a book about the park’s history, a recipe book, and a coloring book!
One of these books will include over 60 Disney recipes!! And did you spot those 50th-anniversary cupcakes?! 👀
We can’t wait to read them all.

DAVID PERKINS says
I was here for the 15th anniversary and it was a non-stop party. Between the parades, and the constant entertainment, and families randomly winning prizes including cars, it was so much fun. 5 years ago I started making plans to be here in October for the 50th and was so excited to be going.
The more I read about the anniversary, the more disappointed I am getting.
