Lots of restaurants are reopening in Disney World!
Trail’s End at Fort Wilderness
One of the restaurants that is set to reopen soon is Trail’s End Restaurant at The Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort. So far, Disney has shared a look at what this spot’s menu will feature when it reopens, but one particular thing on the menu has caught our eye — a GIANT ice cream sundae! 10-Gallon Challenge, is that YOU?!
The 10-Gallon Challenge was an especially GIANT dessert guests used to be able to grab at Whispering Canyon Cafe in Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. Of course, it wasn’t actually 10 gallons. It got its name from the ten-gallon cowboy hat, which appears to be what the sundae is served in.

In the sundae you could find the following:
- Scoops of vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and mint-chocolate chip ice cream
- Pineapple sauce, strawberry sauce, some caramel sauce
- A whole slice of apple pie
- Two cupcakes: one vanilla and one chocolate
- An entire layer of whipped cream
- Two huge chocolate brownies
- Two Mickey Mouse shaped sugar cookies with dipped chocolate ears
- One banana cut in half
- Two Oreos
- Four toasted marshmallows
- Two pieces of chocolate covered bacon(!!!)
- Cherries

We haven’t spotted this sundae for quite some time, but today we saw something that looked verrrrrry familiar when Disney shared photos of the items that will be available at Trail’s End Restaurant when this spot reopens.

Maybe…but also maybe not? Disney included this photo of a large ice cream sundae in the bottom right-hand corner of its compilation of photos showing the items that will be available at Trail’s End when it reopens.

But, when describing the menu items that will be available Disney said this — “But be sure to save room for the Covered Wagon Sundae – a wagon load of ice cream, toppings, brownies, cookies, and chocolate-covered bacon!”
So, Disney seems to be calling the dessert option here the “Covered Wagon Sundae” — that’s different than the “10-Gallon Challenge.” But, many of the ingredients described for this “Covered Wagon Sundae” do appear to be the same as they were for the 10-Gallon Challenge — ice cream, brownies, and chocolate-covered bacon.

And the photo Disney shared looks extremely similar to the 10-Gallon Challenge we had previously. We can even see more items in Disney’s photo that were in the previous 10-Gallon Challenge like the banana and toasted marshmallows.
So, is the 10-Gallon Challenge coming to a new spot in Disney World? Disney hasn’t really made that clear. The photo shown and ingredients described for this “Covered Wagon Sundae” seem to be the same or very similar to the 10-Gallon Challenge. But, it’s possible things have changed.

Trail’s End is set to reopen on July 17th. We’ll be sure to keep an eye out for a full menu from Disney for this location and we’ll keep you updated as to what other information we learn.

I wonder which is bigger – this or the kitchen sink?
Honestly, the 10 Gallon challenge is obscene. Such a waste of food. So many people go hungry in this country and Disney creates a dish that will waste food on purpose. No one is going to eat that much ice cream soup. There are other ways to indulge yourself on vacation but not with this monstrosity. Shame on Disney for making this a “thing”
Sundaes are big but a 10 gallon that is WOW you need a lot of people to help out to try to complete the challenge . The cost must be a big amount if anyone knows the cost . It would be for people like to have challenges .This would be something to try if you like doing itb.
