Holiday Ride Overlays Will Be BACK for Disney World's New After Hours Event

We’re Halfway to the Holidays and Disney is celebrating with all kinds of big holiday news!

So far, we’ve shared an update on EPCOT’s Candlelight Processional, news about a NEW After Hours event that will replace Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, details about some limited time holiday treats you can get in Disney World and Disneyland right now, and more! Typically, during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party we’ve seen holiday overlays at select attractions. Will those be coming back this year with the new After Hours event? We’ve got an update here!

Earlier today, Disney announced that the Disney Very Merriest After Hours event will be replacing Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party this year. The event is set to include character sightings, themed fireworks, specialty treats, and more.

But what about attraction overlays? Well, Disney’s website for the Very Merriest After Hours event specifically notes that during this event fans will be able to enjoy holiday-themed attraction overlays!

Tomorrowland Speedway

The website doesn’t specify which attractions will receive holiday overlays though. In the past, during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, we’ve seen overlays at Tomorrowland Speedway (these decorations could generally be seen during the day but were only lit up during the party), Space Mountain, Mad Tea Party, and Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor. These overlays have generally consisted of either holiday lights and music, and sometimes holiday decorations or other theming.

And, not exclusive to the holiday party, we’ve seen the Jingle Cruise holiday overlay at the Jungle Cruise ride.

Again, Disney hasn’t yet specified which attractions will receive a themed overlay this year during the Very Merriest After Hours event, so we could see some of these overlays return or we could see some new ones.

Keep in mind that most of these overlays (except Jingle Cruise) are typically exclusive to the holiday party. As we mentioned, you could previously see the decorations at Tomorrowland Speedway during the day, but they’d generally only be lit up during the party.
