Disney recently announced a new planning program called Disney Genie.
The program will be part of the My Disney Experience App and have features like a personalized itinerary, forecasted wait times, and even a virtual assistant. There is also a paid version, Disney Genie+, that is replacing the FastPass+ system at the parks. In addition, you will also be able to pay for individual rides in high demand that you want to skip the line for. And, we finally know the exact day that Disney Genie is launching in Disney World!
Disney Genie will launch in Disney World on October 19th, 2021! We do not currently have a launch date for Disneyland.
That’s right, starting in a little over a week and a half, you’ll be able to use this brand new planning tool to navigate the parks!
Genie is a bit confusing, but don’t worry, because we’ve broken it all down for you and answered all your questions! Here’s a quick refresher on the program to keep you in the know before it launches.
Genie is a FREE program in My Disney Experience that will create an itinerary for you based on what you like. It will adapt with you throughout the day and is supposed to make your day in the parks easier. It also will be the place to see forecasted wait times, mobile order, and check on virtual queues, among other things.
Genie+ is a PAID program that is replacing the FastPass+ program. It is $15 per ticket, per day in Disney World. This program will allow you to make one ride selection at a time unless the ride reservation you have is 2 or more hours away.
For example, if you really want to ride Splash Mountain, but can only get a reservation for 6PM that night, you can book that reservation and then book another one before it, as long as it’s 2 or more hours prior. So, you could reserve Jungle Cruise for 10AM and still have that 6PM Splash reservation.
Once you make a reservation for an attraction, you will show up during your time window and enter through the new Lightning Lanes (which are just the old FastPass lanes) which will allow you to skip the majority of the Standby line. Genie+ will include 46 rides in Disney World. Check out a list of all of the rides included with Genie+ here.
The Individual Attraction Selections are separate from the Genie+ program. Each park will have a couple high demand rides that fall under this category. You can pay individually to use the Lightning Lane at these rides, and you can only pay for 2 of these rides per day. The Lightning Lane at these rides is only for people who paid for that individual attraction — the Genie+ program will not allow you to use the Lightning Lane at these rides.
There are 8 rides that fall under this program, 2 in each park. Check out a full list of the rides here, and see how much the rides cost here.
And, you can still wait in standby lines at all the rides in Disney World completely free, so you don’t have to pay for this new system if you don’t want to! We can’t wait to test out Genie for ourselves and see how it impacts our day in the parks. We’ll keep you updated with all the Disney Genie news, so stay tuned to DFB for more!

Still a little unclear about the 120 minute restriction. If I make a pass reservation, do I have to wait 2 hrs or until I use the pass to make the next one OR can I make multiple pass reservations as long as they are 2 hrs apart (which is what I think you said above).
So I wake up at 7AM and get at pass for Millennium Falcon at 3PM. Can I right away make a pass for Star tours say at 12PM ? Or do I have to wait 120 min from then (9AM )o make that pass (Or 2 hours from park opening -even worse).
If I can make the 12 PM Star Tours pass right away- can I then also make a 6PM pass for Slinky Dog. (of course they may not be available- but if they were…..)

Oh……joy

Thanks for the breakdown! My whole family needs to read this.

Can two people use the same account as two different people while using genie+ Ex. My son will get genie+ but I will not. If he uses my login for Disney Experience won’t it get more complicated ?
DFB Sarah says
Kathleen, the two-hour detail refers to the ability to make a second Genie+ reservation if the first one you make is 2+ hours away. So if you book a 3PM Lightning Lane for Millennium Falcon when selections open at 7AM, you could also then make a second selection for Lightning Lane as long as that second one is at least two hours prior to the 3PM you have for Millennium Falcon. Our expectation is that you will be able to hold a “second” Genie+ Lightning Lane selection, one at a time, up until two hours before your Millennium Falcon selection. Then you’d be holding that Millennium Falcon 3PM selection until you tap in for that attraction. Once you use that up, you could, in theory, do this again by booking a Genie+ LL selection for later in the day — say Slinky Dog at 8PM — then make your one-at-a-time Genie+ selections right up until 6PM (two hours prior to your Slinky Dog selection). Does that all help?

Have you heard anything about being able to apply for a DAS pass on the app with a video conference. I was told it will take effect with Genie does.
DFB Sarah says
Margaret, Disney has said that will be part of Disney Genie, yes! They haven’t issued any updates that I know of, but we’ll report when it launches!
DFB Sarah says
Toni, Genie+ will allow guests to purchase it for individual guests, so your son could purchase Genie+ even if you do not, and I don’t think it will matter whose My Disney Experience it is, as long as he is attached to yours as a member of your party.
Carol says
We’re at the Magic Kingdom today and people were using the lightning lane at the Haunted Mansion. They weren’t handicapped. Maybe they’re testing the Genie+.
DFB Sarah says
Carol, that may be possible. Rider Switch also uses that lane when the second party enters an attraction. We’ll keep our eyes and ears open!
