Disney World sure does know how to throw a birthday party!
And, while we typically settle for a small dessert table at our birthday parties, Disney World has outdone themselves and brought OVER 150 new eats and drinks to the parks and resorts for the 50th Anniversary! So far we’ve tried a funnel cake hot dog, a bathtub of ice cream (yes, really), and more, but, it wouldn’t be a real party without some cake, right? Well, that’s why we’re headed over to EPCOT to have our cake and eat it too!
Gelateria Toscana is a new gelato kiosk tucked away between the Italy Pavilion and The American Adventure. And, it’s here that you’ll find the NEW 7-Layer Cake for $10!
Disney describes this cake as a blue-and-white 7-layer cake topped with chocolate ganache and gold dust. Um. Disney? What is happening here. We don’t count 7 layers, and would you describe this cake as “blue and white”?
The cake is made up of a dark blue layer, a blueish-greenish layer, and a yellow cake layer, topped with dark chocolate ganache and gold sprinkles. The cake was moist and we tasted flavors of almond, raspberry and dark chocolate. We noted a strong almond liqueur flavor, and the raspberry filling had real seeds in it.
We didn’t really like this particular flavor combination. It was very rich and heavy on the dark chocolate and almond flavors, and it was a bit too much for a hot Florida day. If you love those kinds of flavors, you might really enjoy this treat! If you hate rich desserts, steer clear.
You can find the “7-Layer” Cake at Gelateria Toscana in EPCOT. Keep in mind that it can also be found at the Via Napoli Donkey Cart and Via Napoli Ristorante e Pizzeria if you’ll be dining there during your trip. Now, we’ve got MANY more treats to try today, so be sure that you’re following along with DFB for all of the latest must-try snacks!

I can’t help but think the “7” layers here are simply misunderstood. In many restaurants that serve a multi-layer cake, they almost always count each cake layer and the filling layers in between (see: Michael Jordan’s Steakhouse 23-layer cake; it has 11 layers of cake and 12 layers of ganache). I count 3 layers of cake, 2 layers of filling, and one layer of ganache – I’m guessing the 7th layer is considered the sprinkles on top. Of course, the “__-layer cake” on a menu is always titled with a high number to peak curiosity and sound more impressive. But, I do see 7 layers here.

This cake is a riff on a classic Italian American bakery cookie known as the Venetian cookie, rainbow cookie, or seven-layer cookie. It’s three layers of apricot sponge, a layer of apricot jam, a layer of raspberry jam, ganache topping, and sprinkles (the final “layer”). They’re one of my favorite cookies and are hard to come by out here in the Midwest, so to me that sounds amazing, but I could definitely see how a cake sized version night be a bit overwhelming with those intense flavors!
