Before visiting Disney World, you’ll definitely want to check out the refurbishment calendar online to see what might be closed during your trip.
Often, attractions will close for a short amount of time to get some maintenance and keep things spiffy, but sometimes those closures last longer than anticipated. The PeopleMover had a surprise closure of more than a year a while back, but one other Magic Kingdom ride has that one beat — the Walt Disney World Railroad.
The Walt Disney World Railroad has been closed since late 2018 due to construction on the Tron coaster in Tomorrowland. No end date was originally announced for the closure, but now it looks like the refurbishment will be extending into 2022, according to new hours posted on the Disney World website.
At this time, the train is listed on the refurbishment calendar through January 5th, 2022, which is the last day of park hours released currently. We’ll continue to check the calendar as more park hours are released. Disney hasn’t shared any updates on this refurbishment, but we’ll keep you updated if they release any details on either the Walt Disney World Railroad or the Tron coaster (it currently doesn’t have an opening date).

The Walt Disney World Railroad was the best ride in the park (even if you were not a train enthusiast like me). If you needed a break to sit and relax, you could get on board and take a tour around the entire park…magical.
Disney has done a great disservice to all its guests by taking it out of service for 3 (that’s 3) years now. Boo !!! Shame on Disney !!

WTF… poor planning on WDW for keeping the train down. They could have easily built a temporary tunnel structure to protect the train and riders during the TRON construction. Bad show Disney. You are alienating loyal guests at an unprecedented rate. My daughter is planning a trip to WDW next fall an the discussion at the dinner table last night revolved around not going to the parks at all during here week long DVC stay. The place is just getting too expensive and the delays are never ending. Bob Iger left a shattered legacy and the new CEO does not have a friend in sight when it comes to guests. What is happening to this place….?

I’ve ridden the train back in 1996 as a kid and I loved it taking my daughter next year and I wanted to share that experience with her
