Disney’s theme parks and Disney as a company celebrate quite a few holidays.
At Disneyland alone, we’ve seen some awesome Halloween decorations, beautiful holiday decor, and even a shop that will celebrate various holidays throughout the year. But, now Disneyland is celebrating something extra special…Life Day!
What is “Life Day” you ask? Well, it’s a Star Wars-related holiday. According to StarWars.com, Life Day is a “longstanding Wookiee tradition” that celebrates the tenets of the Wookiee culture, like “family, joy, and harmony.” While it was first celebrated by the Wookiees, people from planets across the galaxy embraced the tradition, adding their own touches to the festivities like lights, music, and (of course) food.
And in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland, food is taking center stage during this year’s Life Day! Starting today, November 12th, a whole bunch of new treats have arrived in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland Park in honor of Life Day. Let’s see if any of these are worth the cash!
Kat Saka’s Kettle
Over at Kat Saka’s Kettle, you can find 2 NEW dishes. First, we have the Potato Hand Pie that is Tikka Masala-spiced and served with Mint-Cilantro Yogurt Sauce for $6.79.
This was pretty much a potato and pea samosa (We think it had sweet potato!) and it had a lot of those really rich South Asian flavors from the Tikka Masala.
It was a hearty and vegetarian dish that was a sizeable portion. If you like Indian food usually and/or need a big snack to tide you over until dinner, this could be a good option.
But wait, there’s more! If you’re still hungry, you can also pick up the Black Sesame Macaron.
This treat is made with a Toasted Macaron with Passionfruit Buttercream and Sesame Praline for $5.49. That’s an interesting combo of flavors, so we just had to give it a try!
This macaron was done very well with all of the right textures in the macaron itself and in the filling. The primary flavor is the tart passionfruit from the buttercream, but it’s definitely got a more unique quality to it too.
That’s because of that sesame flavor! The sesame praline was super sweet and switched up the flavor profile a bit from what you’d expect from passionfruit. Still, you definitely have to like passionfruit to enjoy this treat so keep that in mind.
Oga’s Cantina
The fun ain’t over yet. At Oga’s Cantina, you can grab a NEW bite to eat, as well as a new drink. To eat, we’ve got the new Kaadu Pork Belly Slider.
This slider features Skewer Pork Belly, a Bao Bun, Zucchini Sauce, Calabrian Chili Compote, and Za’atar Spice. Considering that Oga’s Cantina doesn’t exactly have too many things to eat, we were excited to see a new item added to the menu.
This was a very tasty bite. The chili compote and Za’atar spice (a blend of savory dried herbs like oregano, marjoram, or thyme; and toasted earthy spices like cumin and coriander, with sesame seeds) bring a complex heat to the flavor profile.
Our one complaint is we wish there was more pork belly in the bun. It was super fatty and texturally perfect. We wouldn’t necessarily come to Oga’s Cantina just to try these but if you’re already planning a visit to the space bar, consider picking them up! You can get this eat for $12.
If you want to pick up a new drink, you can try the Tarkenian Night Flower.
This drink is made with a Blend of Gin and Elderflower Liqueur, with flavors of Ginger and Huckleberry. It is then garnished with a Sweet Hibiscus Flower.
Our reporter actually liked this drink a lot even though it’s made with gin which not everybody likes! We didn’t catch much of the ginger flavor. Instead, the drink had a fruity tartness to it that we enjoyed.
It was relatively refreshing as well! If it’s your first time at Oga’s, we might recommend something more exciting like the Fuzzy Tauntaun. But, the Tarkenian Night Flower could be a great option for returning guests or those who are just looking for a more standard, tasty cocktail.
You can try the Tarkenian Night Flower for $18.
Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo
Finally, over at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo, you can pick up the Life Day special — Pork Broth Noodles!
This item is made with Angel Hair Pasta with Bok Choy, Mushrooms, Roasted Pork, and Yuzu-Tomato Compote in a Pesto-Tonkotsu Broth.
These noodles were DELICIOUS. What an awesome twist on ramen! The pork was a little bit overdone, but it wasn’t the star of the dish so we could look past it.
All the ingredients work together really well. The thinner pasta was awesome on the savory (but not too salty!) broth. We liked this so much that we REALLY hope they keep this on the menu. We would make a point to get it again. It’s got chicken noodle soup/warm ramen vibes. It’s very comforting!
If you want to try this item, you can get it for $15.49.
If you want to get these eats, be sure to head over to Disneyland’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge soon! Disney hasn’t announced whether these will eventually make their way over to Disney World, but we’ll be on the lookout for any updates. Stay tuned for all the latest Disney news!
