You’ve had space food in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and food in space at EPCOT’s Space 220, but soon fans will get to get another space eating experience at the Star Wars Hotel (Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser).
We’ve already seen some concept art showing some of the dining spaces on the ship and gotten a peek at some of the BRIGHTLY colored food guests will get to eat. But, now we’ve got MORE exciting food news about some dishes you’ll get to eat in space!
Recently, Disney released some more information about just what dining on The Halcyon (the ship you’ll board as part of the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser experience) will be like. Let’s start with breakfast. Breakfast aboard the Star Wars hotel will be served in the Crown of Corellia Dining Room. Disney has shared that you’ll be able to “help yourself to colorful fare from all over the galaxy — along with familiar favorites from your home planet.”
Breakfast will feature hot and cold small plates, and a variety of beverages (including juices, coffee, and blue milk — of course).
During lunch, guests can pick up small bites like sandwiches, soups, mini flatbreads, salads, and sweets.
According to Nerdist, both breakfast and lunch are served as buffets, but they will feature “small individualized plates, ensuring perfect presentation.”
Recently, Disney has also shared a look at some of the NEW dishes coming to this hotel! First, Disney has shared that there will be a bubble waffle grilled cheese for lunch, served with a creamy tomato bisque soup to dip it in. Nerdist described this bubble waffle as one of their favorite dishes: “the bubbles giving the cheese beautiful pockets to get melty and perfect.”
It’s our understanding that dinner on the first night will be a supper-style occasion with a performance to watch while you eat. Disney has shared that dinner on the second night of the experience will be served with a mixture of family-style service and regular plated items in a Taste Around the Galaxy showcase. The website specifies that it will include group appetizers for the table, a choice of entrée, and a specialty plated dessert.
SYFY shared details about purple bread served with blue Bantha milk butter! They stated, “They hit the perfect balance of nailing space-like elements, like bonito flakes that twitch and shrink as you eat and blue milk butter served with purple bread, without sacrificing flavor. (And take note now: if you see the matcha cheesecake when you make your way aboard, don’t miss out.)”
During one meal on the ship, you can try out the very strange-looking Felucian-inspired blue shrimp.
There will also be ceviche with a tentacled twist (including corn nuts, spherical carrot pieces, calamari, and squid) and a pastry ball that is filled with curried chicken salad. According to Bloomberg, the “purple ube bread and curried chicken-stuffed sandwich orbs proved more elegant than the rations our Jedi heroes consume on-screen. Skirting the line between intergalactic modernism and classic fine dining, this could very well prove to be Disney World’s best restaurant.”
StarWars.com notes that there will also be a “Mustafar-inspired bread service with nitrogen accents.”
According to IGN, there’s also a very extraterrestrial salad that is actually just a normal salad with some strange-looking veggies mixed in. One of the most unique dishes according to IGN was the “miso-crusted salmon topped with a mystery ingredient that twisted and thrived on the plate.” Sounds creepy, right? The moving garnish is actually a bonito flake, which is a “dried fish delicacy.” According to Nerdist, the flakes are simmered, smoked, and fermented tuna, which react to the steam coming from the hot food, making them move.
There will be a few different desserts to try, including a lemon cheesecake with a yuzu Chantilly cream (Nerdist).
The Nerdist also reported one drink coming to the menu: a “Hoth Frost [that] came with spun sugar ‘ice’ over the top of the blue-green liquid with lemon foam.”
According to StarWars.com, the Sublight Lounge will feature a brand NEW “menu of beverages including the Hoth Frost, the Mooja Twist, and other tasty delights.” IGN describes the Mooja Twist as a “light and refreshing fruit and vegetable cocktail.”
If all the space food sounds a little too adventurous for you, don’t worry too much. Disney said there will be more familiar dishes on the menu as well. StarWars.com shared that there will be food for those with “less adventurous palettes and dietary restrictions.” There will also be vegetarian substitutions and the “standard chicken fingers, or tip yip, and fries” onboard.
Reporters have said that the food onboard is all delicious and fun, with familiar flavors and unique textures. One mentioned a tasty Matcha Cheesecake that you might see when boarding the ship, so make sure to grab that if you see it! (SyFy)
Of course, we’ll be sharing all kinds of food details once full menus are released for the hotel and we get the chance to visit and try the new items ourselves. So, stay tuned for more news, and May the Force Be With You!
