Update: Bob Chapek has commented on why he is not attending the event this year. You can see that here.
This weekend is Destination D23 — an event put on by Disney’s Official Fan Club.
This is where Disney fans can be the first to hear exciting announcements and news about upcoming projects, get sneak peeks of upcoming TV shows and movies, and more! It will be held at the Contemporary Resort at Disney World and is completely sold out. But, there will be some livestreams you can tune in to! There are usually special guest speakers at the event, but we just learned that one well known Disney executive will no longer be in attendance.
According to Scott Gustin on Twitter, The Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Chapek will NOT be attending Destination D23 this weekend at Disney World.
He was originally scheduled to be at the event, but Disney spokeswoman Jacquee Wahler said that “Bob has a conflict in L.A. on Friday night and couldn’t make it back to Orlando on time.”

They said Bob Paycheck had a conflict with attending a function in California. WDWnt.com reported that he was afraid he would be booed. Other Disney fans believe he is busy trying to figure out how to charge us for tram rides in the parking lot.
Jeff says
I’ve read on other Disney news sites that he’s no longer attending because the company was afraid Bob Chapek would be booed because so many Disney fans hatw what he’s doing to the company. Has DFB heard this news as well?
Johnny says
He’s obviously meeting with Barbara Streisand.
Gary says
As a D23 member It doesn’t surprise me that Bob Chapek is not attending the upcoming D23 event, the coward is afraid to face the wrath of core Disney fans. He’s probably looking for an appropriately sized rock to hide under
Don Glover says
I suspect the real reason is that he doesn’t want to face the boos and insults when he takes the stage.
Pascal says
I dont dought his schedule conflict… But wy do I get the feeling that Bob Chapek’s management style is sinking the Disney parks???
Ken C says
To quote Dr Evil: “Riiiiiight.”
John Staley says
“Conflict in LA”? Could it be he doesn’t want to expose himself to any questions about all the new”money saving” ideas that he and the other minions dreamt up? Watch your waistline, Bob
JN says
I can only hope that he is at a Job Fair that day applying over at Six Flags.
Don says
Right….and he would be so popular.
Margaret Drayden says
Word on the street is that CEO Chapek isn’t attending the Destination D23 because he was booed before at some appearance and he doesn’t want to experience that again. Apparently he was booed because of the changes that have been made: Genie+, etc., and patrons are upset. Now, that and a couple dollars will get you a ride on the bus, but it seems logical to me. Disney fans aren’t usually folks that are pictured as booing anyone, much less the head of Disney, but the perception that Disney is just out to reach into your pockets for even more money, doesn’t make folks happy campers.
Frank says
Trying to avoid the boos.
Bill says
“Bob has a conflict in LA …” Yeah, riiiight and the dog ate his homework!! This is an event he NEEDS to attend and put to rest the notion espoused by many and that is, he doesn’t care about Disney AND it’s customers and he would rather cut corners than improve the Disney experience.
Hey Bob, change your mind and make time for the people who put their hard-earned money (and lots of it) in your pockets. Don’t wimp out and tell us you’re too busy to be with the people who have faithfully gone to and stood by Disney for decades.
Mark C 🏴 says
There you go folks, that’s how much the boss of all the things we love thinks of us.
He knows what will happen if he does go and hasn’t even got the bottle to face the public.
He is just using the 50th as a money making tool to make up what was lost during the covid closure.
I bet Walt wouldn’t stand for what he’s doing, that man will ruin the parks with his greed.
DFB Sarah says
Jeff, we have seen that reported but not found an official source.
Ray says
Chicken 🐓
BT says
The Disney company is falling apart at the seams, and it falls all on Bob Cheapo. After 20 years we’re not renewing our annual passes. Going to give Universal a try this year.
Bob has no spine and can’t take the heat. Disney doesn’t care about the fans anymore. So they’ll get none of our money.
Oh well.
Mrsdvc says
Hardly surprising when he’s disliked so much
Roz says
He needs to go. No one likes this man. He is so Non Disney and “Pro Himself “.
He’s awful
pattie says
Bob chapek has done so much harm to Disney and he needs to b stopped before Disney closes people don’t have the money to support his scheme it needs b put back like it was always and why r we paying to walk thru the turnstiles and as annuals what is the benefit of that anymore he is destroying Disney and what a shame that is please get rid of him before it’s too late he is a very greedy person how does he sleep
At night I guess the answer is his pillow is filled money that he is grabbing from us Disney lovers mad yes he surely would get booed he is a disgrace
Rob says
Of course good old Bob won’t be attending. There is no money to be made at the event. Besides, D23 is a fan club and Bob cares nothing about the fans. He turned his back on them on his first day as CEO and hasn’t stopped since. I’m sure none of the attendee’s will miss him, let alone want him there.
NJ says
I for one, would be happy to boo Chapek. After being a life-long Disney fan, he has totally destroyed my love of Disney. I no long have any desire to go to Disney World ever again. Hope he’s happy with his decisions.
Michael D says
Huh, you would think the CEO of a multi-billion dollar company would have access to some sort of flying contraption that could get one quickly from LA to Orlando so he could do both…. Guess the loyal Disney fans aren’t high on his priority list.
Jane P says
Not one comment in Bob’s defense. Everyone knows why he will not attend. Guess he really needs to “ spend more time with his family.” Go join Michael Eisner in retirement, Bob.
Jacqueline says
I wish you guys had a like button for the comments. Sometimes a dislike button but no dislikes from me on this thread.
Blanca says
Mr. Chapek, you are a COWARD. You made terrible business decisions that have negatively affected your clients. Stand in front of them on stage and listen to their reactions. It’s not TOO LATE to reverse course.
Bill says
If there was one thing I could always count on it was going to Disney and enjoying my time there. I’ve been going for 50 years now. It was our family’s destination of choice and we were never disappointed until the last two years. Both times it was as if we were planning an invasion the size of which has not been seen since D-Day. Obviously that sucks the fun right out of going. We introduced our grandkids to Disney and were planning on having multiple vacations with them and the rest of our family. Is this really an attempt to cut out the average vacationer? I’ve seen enough! The real question is how DO we start a grassroots effort to oust Bob Chapek? Can it be done? How could it be done? Who’s willing to make the effort to get someone in there who understands what Disney really means? I’m done with all Disney’s woke crap they’re doing in the parks too. If you really want to get rid of this guy then let’s stop the talk and take some action.
