Destination D23 is this weekend and Disney fans couldn’t be more excited. The fan event, which is hosted by the official Disney fan club, will be held at Disney’s Contemporary Resort at Disney World and will potentially reveal some new behind-the-scenes looks at attractions, as well as offer sneak peeks of upcoming projects.
With last year’s event postponed due to the global health crisis, this year’s is highly anticipated. But, as we previously reported, Walt Disney CEO Bob Chapek won’t be there.
And now, Chapek has commented on why he’s missing out on the event. He told the Inside Disney Podcast that he had hoped to attend, but it just didn’t work out this year.
He said, “I’m sorry I had every intention of trying to make it this year, as you know I’ve made the last several, and I really love the event. Unfortunately, this year given the new job and given tugs I get from several different areas it’s impossible for me to make it. But I will be there in spirit.”
And for fans who have to miss the event, don’t forget that much of Destination D23 will be live streamed this weekend — you can find the schedule here. So don’t forget to tune in!
And we’ll be covering all the announcements made at Destination D23, so be sure to check back here this weekend!

Color me skeptical. A Gulfstream jet can get from Orlando Executive to John Wayne airport in under four hours.

Yeah Bob, We get it…in fact we’ve been getting it since you became CEO!

Bob, Bob, Bob …. What a load of hooey. Who is the boss, Bob, you or you tugees?
Rob says
“Unfortunately, this year given the new job and given tugs I get from several different areas”. In other words, fans are not a priority in any way or form. Most fans and guest despise him now and don’t what him there anyway, so him not being there makes a better event.

Just be HONEST, Bob ……
YOU are now the FACE of DIsney & the theme parks ….. and the guy everyone points to as the face of Disney’s current manta ‘make the shareholders happy & stick it to the Disney fanatics who will go along with ANYTHING the company says & does because we are mindless robots’ ….. & you were AFRAID to get boo-d. Wouldn’t look good to the board and DEFINTELY wouldn’t look good on all the live feeds that will record this moment forever.
NICE leadership there, Bob!

And I’m SURE he won’t be missed!! That man needs to go. He is destroying. Our beloved. Disney World. He is awful as a CEO !!!

Would YOU be there if you knew the questions coming your way?
Bad PR for not attending is far better than what would have come from answers to questions from people who actually care about the customer side of the equation.

Where are the comments?
Ron says
A CEO of a company makes the big decisions both good and bad. The good CEO is willing to appear before clients and and explain why the decisions were made. The CEO of Disney is a coward.
