Hello from Destination D23! We’re here covering all the latest Disney parks updates and news from this year’s event.
Today, Disney gave us some updates and new looks at their new MagicBands!
MagicBand+ is the latest iteration of Disney’s MagicBands and has new features like lights, gesture recognition, vibrations, and interaction with Disney parks and shows. While sharing information on these interactive MagicBands, Josh D’Amaro wore a prototype. Here’s a close-up look at some the bands we’ve seen in person.
It was announced that the new MagicBands are coming to Disney World in 2022 as part of the 50th Anniversary celebration!
Not only will these new accessories come to Disney World in 2022, but Disneyland will also be joining in on the MagicBand fun! This will be the first time that Disneyland will have MagicBands! According to Disney,”Some of the features of MagicBand+ will vary between Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort.”
Plus, Disneyland guests will be able to get an exclusive Sleeping Beauty Castle-inspired band!
These bands will be able to interact with nighttime spectaculars, the 5oth anniversary statues, and so much more. You can read all about MagicBand+ here.

On rare occasions, when we are invited by a company to attend a preview as media, and when we choose to accept that invitation, we will always make you, our readers, aware of that situation. Today, we were invited by Disney World to attend their Destination D23 Event. Interestingly, the software/firmware developers were manning thr information table at the expo. We talked for quite a while. I asked if they were imagineers or marketing. They said neither. “We are developing the code and firmware for the bands.
Marsha H says
Well considering that the 50th anniversary started in Oct 2021, when exactly are they planning to release these? It indicates they will be part of the 50th anniversary, that started 3 months ago..
Pam says
Did you happen to find out if Disneyland’s MagicBand+ will work at WDW or vice versa?
DFB Sarah says
Pam, I don’t think Disney has shared this yet, but it’s a great question. We’ll update when there’s info.
DFB Sarah says
Marsha, the 50th celebration is 18 months long, so they’ll be released sometime in that timeframe.
