Planning for a Disney vacation can involve many different things, like being prepared for the weather, scheduling dining reservations, or mapping out your park days.
You will probably need to prepare for rain!
But, even if you plan everything down to the minute, there are some things that are simply out of your control. One of those things is if a ride is going to be open or not, as refurbishments do take place on different rides throughout the year. And, if you’re planning to be at Disneyland Resort in January of 2022, there are some new ride closures you should know about!
Splash Mountain and Haunted Mansion will both be closed for refurbishment starting January 10th in Disneyland Park.

The Splash Mountain closure will last through March 7th, and the ride will reopen on Tuesday, March 8th.

Disney has not said what’s happening to the two attractions during refurbishment. According to Scott Gustin on Twitter, the refurbishment at Splash Mountain is just regular refurbishment and not one that will include the Princess and the Frog reimagining.

Disney has not said when the Princess and the Frog re-theme would take place in either Disneyland or Disney World, but, in an August 2021 interview on the Theme Park Rangers Podcast, Melissa Valiquette, vice president of Magic Kingdom, gave an update on the project. She said that “terrific work has been done, including some selections around music, around animatronics and music, and it is really an inspiring story.”

Melissa went on to say that reimagining a ride like Splash Mountain can be a lengthy process, which could take many months, and even years.

As for Haunted Mansion, the closure is probably just to take down the The Nightmare Before Christmas overlay that’s on the ride right now for the holidays, as the holiday season officially ends in Disneyland on January 9th.

Haunted Mansion is back open at Disneyland. I rode it on Sunday the 30th of January. It may have reopened a couple weeks ago but Sunday was my first adventure for 2 weeks due to Covid, had to wait for my negative test before returning. It’s the right thing to do.
It is back to its original glory, my personal preference although my daughter disagrees.
