There are refurbishments and construction projects taking place throughout Disney World.
We’re constantly on the lookout for closures and other things going on that could impact your trip so that you can be prepared. If you’re a big fan of Splash Mountain or hoping to complete the Magic Kingdom mountain challenge in early 2022, then we have important news you need to know about.
In early 2022, Splash Mountain will be closing for refurbishment in Disneyland, and it seems that will be the case in Disney World too. From January 10th, 2022, through February 10th, 2022, Splash Mountain will be CLOSED for refurbishment in Disney World.
It is pretty typical for Splash Mountain to close temporarily for routine refurbishment during this time. It closed right around this same time in 2020 for refurbishment.
As Disney notes, the ride will be closed for “routine maintenance” during this time. In other words, this brief refurbishment will not be for the upcoming Princess and the Frog related re-theme.
Back in November of 2020, Disney announced that it would fast-track Splash Mountain’s redesign. But, Disney has not yet announced specific times on when the Princess and the Frog re-theme will begin or be completed.
We have heard that conceptual design work is well underway though, and we’ve seen some concept art and details released about the reimagining.

For now, however, it seems Splash will only be closing temporarily for some routine maintenance. If you’ll be visiting when it will be closed, be sure to keep that in mind and plan around it.
We’ll be on the lookout for more news and let you know what we find.

I kid you not I have a MK park reservation for January 10th. I guess I will need to jump over there from AK the night of the 9th to catch it before it closes. Man, Yeti and now Splash Mountain during our trip. This stinks!

Good to know Splash won’t be ruined just yet.
