Last Friday I had the pleasure of visiting the El Capitan in Hollywood to see Disney/Pixar’s latest masterpiece, Brave…
…and then to indulge in a little post-movie treat!
“Merida’s Perfect Target” Sundae
After the movie, we headed next door to Disney’s Soda Fountain to check out their newest ice cream creation inspired by Brave: Merida’s Perfect Target. The sundae features shortbread cookie crumbs topped with strawberry cheesecake ice cream, strawberry sauce, whipped cream, and a fresh strawberry.
It’s finished off with a shortbread “Target” cookie that is designed to look like the archery targets Merida aims for in the movie.
I love fruity sundaes and I love cheesecake, so this combo was perfect for me. I was a little concerned about the shortbread cookie and cookie crumbles; I thought that maybe they’d be soft from being paired with the ice cream, but both were nice and crispy and had great flavor.
The cookie target is made from blue fondant with a dollop of red frosting in the center. The coolest part? The sundae looked EXACTLY like the photo display.
Merida’s Perfect Target Sundae will be available at Disney’s Soda Fountain through August 12th — the entire run of Brave next door at the El Capitan Theatre.
Breakfast with Merida
Have some Merida fans at home? During the run of the movie, Disney’s Soda Fountain is holding special morning meals on Saturdays & Sundays. Additional Friday mornings open up if weekend dates fill up.
Breakfast is $25 (does not include your movie admission). Entree choices are waffles, eggs, or oatmeal with bacon or sausage; fresh fruit, yogurt, and a variety of baked goods including scones and buns. Beverages such as juice, milk, coffee, and tea are included.
During breakfast, Merida makes her rounds and the Soda Fountain takes and prints souvenir photos of your party with Merida. After breakfast (if you have purchased movie tickets to the 10:00am show), you are escorted into El Capitan to see Brave. For more information or to make a reservation for breakfast with Merida, please call 1.800.Disney6.
Not interested in breakfast but want to see Brave at the El Capitan? I strongly suggest visiting their site to purchase your tickets in advance. The theater is gorgeous and the live pre-movie stage show is very fun to see. It features all of your favorite characters including a grand finale number with Merida and several of her Scottish friends!
For those of you who haven’t had a chance to see the movie just yet, I highly recommend getting to the theater as soon as possible. The movie is excellent. My entire family — including my husband and two boys ages 8 and 10 — enjoyed it. There’s something for everyone in it. Grown-up humor, great characters, lovely scenery, and I love the spunk and sass of Disney’s newest heroine, Merida!
More Ice Cream Goodness
On a side note, if you’ve never been up to Hollywood to visit Disney’s Soda Fountain, get up there! The Mickey’s Masterpiece is well worth a visit — 8 scoops of ice cream, tons of toppings, and a whole can of whipped cream (a la Beaches and Cream!).
Let us know if you head over to the Soda Fountain or El Capitan!

I have had the pleasure of visiting Disney’s Soda Fountain on a business trip to LA and I enjoyed it very much. I would love to see a movie at the El Capitan theater. It looks like a lot of fun. I enjoyed Brave and as a mother of a pre-teen (although she thinks she is a teenager) daughter found the relationship between mother and daughter to be real and touching. I bet seeing it on honest to goodness old fashioned big movie screen was awesome!
