A piece of Disney World is going on tour!
Earlier this year, EPCOT got the new The Soul of Jazz: An American Adventure exhibit in (You guessed it!) The American Adventure Pavilion. Well, Disney announced that this exhibit would be hittin’ the road and heading on a three-museum tour around the United States. Now, the tour has kicked off!
The Soul of Jazz: An American Adventure exhibit opened at the American Jazz Museum in Kansas City, Missouri on December 10th. At first exclusive to EPCOT, the exhibit is now bringing the spirit and history of jazz (with the help of characters from Pixar’s Soul) to museums around the country.
Walt Disney Imagineering partnered with the American Jazz Museum, the New Orleans Jazz Museum, and The National jazz Museum in Harlem to recreate an EPCOT experience for visitors and residents to enjoy.
We visited the new exhibit in Kansas City to take a look at what the traveling version includes! When you walk into the American Jazz Museum, there’s a central lobby.
The lobby features a store, a general seating and welcome area, the entrances to the American Jazz Museum and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, and a section in the general space where you’ll spot The Soul of Jazz exhibit.
We purchased a ticket and it was checked as we entered the main jazz museum space. The Soul of Jazz is off the lobby and not actually in the museum itself so our ticket was not checked when we went to view it. Tickets for the American Jazz Museum are $10 for adults and combination admission that includes the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum is $15 for adults.
The exhibit was larger than we expected, but not huge. It looked pretty familiar to us; after all, it is a traveling version of the exhibit in EPCOT.
Still, this version of the exhibit felt a little like we were stepping into the film. We could sing with the band…
…see Joe Gardner’s classroom…
…and head over to the Half Note Club.
Of course, the exhibit has a lot of amazing and historic pieces from the Jazz greats like this dress worn by Pearl Thurston Brown…
…a photo of Billie Holiday…
…and more!
And the exhibit brought some added Soul fun with it too! We spotted Soul coloring pages for kiddos and a little Soul activity page that we snagged before heading into the full museum.
In the gift shop, they also had some Soul merchandise items available for purchase.
The exhibit will be in Kansas City until April 2022. Don’t forget, it’s also at the New Orleans Jazz Museum and is headed to The National jazz Museum in Harlem in February! As always, keep an eye on DFB for the latest Disney updates!
