If you’re celebrating the new year by heading to Disney World in January, you might want to know what’s going to be closed in the parks and hotels.

There are a few closures — including a couple of MAJOR rides — happening next month. Find out which attractions, rides, transportation, and hotels will be closed in January.

We’ll start out by looking at the rides and attractions that have scheduled refurbishments in Disney World.

Magic Kingdom

Magic Kingdom has a couple of big attractions that will be closed for at least part of January.

Splash Mountain

Splash Mountain is closing for a scheduled refurbishment from January 10th through February 10th.

This ride usually gets some updates during this time of the year. This is not the big refurbishment that Disney announced, which will turn the attraction into a Princess and the Frog-themed ride.

Disney hasn’t set a date for that update, so we’re not sure when that will happen. For now, we’ll probably just see some routine maintenance.

Walt Disney World Railroad

The Walt Disney World Railroad is also still closed in Magic Kingdom, and this ride doesn’t have a reopening date yet.

The attraction closed for some refurbishments and also because of construction happening in Tomorrowland on the upcoming TRON: Lightcycle Run roller coaster that interrupted the train tracks.

The railroad probably won’t fully open until TRON construction finishes, and we’ll keep you updated with any news about the timelines for those two attractions.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Expedition Everest

Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain will close for a pretty long refurbishment from January 4th, 2022, through mid-April, 2022. 

This ride takes guests on a journey through the Himalayas in search of the yeti. But during its closure, you can check out some other popular rides in Animal Kingdom like Kali River Rapids, Avatar: Flight of Passage, and Kilimanjaro Safaris.

Finding Nemo: The Musical

Finding Nemo: The Musical is also still closed in this park, and it’ll return sometime in 2022 (although we don’t have a specific date yet) with a few updates.

The new show will be based on the timeline from Finding Dory, and it will keep some fan-favorite songs from the original show.

EPCOT

Souk-al-Magreb

The only scheduled closure for EPCOT in January is a gift shop in World Showcase. Souk-al-Magreb in the Morocco pavilion is still closed right now, and it will remain closed through all of January.

This gift shop is scheduled to reopen on February 6th, 2022. When it reopens, you’ll likely be able to find souvenirs and trinkets inspired by Morocco, like we saw there before its lengthy closure.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Voyage of the Little Mermaid

Two long-term closures are continuing into January in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Voyage of the Little Mermaid is still closed, and it doesn’t have a reopening date yet.

Faantasmic!

The nighttime show Fantasmic! is going to reopen sometime in 2022, but we don’t have a specific date for its return either.

We do know that this popular show will be a little bit different when it returns.

Disney World Hotels

All-Star Sports

The only Disney World hotel that will be fully closed in January is Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort.

This hotel is reopening on March 31st, 2022. If you’re hoping to stay at All-Star Sports, you can book your reservations now.

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

Some DVC Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa are closed right now.

Disney is adding new pull-out beds to these rooms.

Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

A couple of pools will be closed in January as well. The Flippin’ Fins Pool (in the Little Mermaid section of the resort) at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort will be closed from early January through late February. In the meantime, guests can use the Big Blue Pool (in the Finding Nemo section of the resort) or the Cozy Cone Pool (in the Cars section of the resort), which will both remain open.

The Cozy Cone Pool will close in late February after the Flippin’ Fins Pool reopens. This closure is expected to last through mid-April 2022.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

At Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, the Samawati Springs Pool (at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village) will be closed from January 2022 through April 2022.

Guests at the Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village can head over to the Jambo House area to use the Uzima Springs Pool.

Disney World Transportation

The Skyliner

The Skyliner is a popular mode of transportation in Disney World where guests can travel through the sky in gondolas.

The Skyliner connects EPCOT and Hollywood Studios to some hotels like Disney’s Riviera Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, and Disney’s Pop Century Resort.

From January 23rd through January 28th, 2022, the Skyliner will be closed for a brief refurbishment. During this time, Disney will provide alternate transportation for the routes the Skyliner usually covers.

Disney World Water Parks

Typhoon Lagoon will reopen on January 2nd, 2022. This water park will have some big menu changes and new snacks when it reopens!

When Typhoon Lagoon reopens, Disney’s other water park, Blizzard Beach, will close for refurbishments.

Disney hasn’t announced yet when Blizzard Beach will reopen.
