Skipping the standby lines for some of your favorite Disney World rides is about to CHANGE (for a limited time, that is).
Right now, Disney World guests can skip the lines at some of the most popular attractions in the parks either by using Disney Genie+ or Individual Attraction Selection — both of which are paid systems that replaced FastPass+. Certain rides are available through Genie+ while others are only available through Individual Attraction Selection. But just what rides will be on which list is about to change for a little bit!
A quick recap: Genie+ and Individual Attraction Selection are the PAID systems that recently replaced FastPass+. To skip the lines using Genie+, a guest pays $15 per person per day at Disney World. They can then make 1 selection to use the Lightning Lane (old FastPass+ lane) at a ride during a certain return time period. They can then continue to make 1 Lightning Lane selection at a time throughout the day.
But select popular rides are NOT available through Genie+. To skip the standby line at those rides, guests need to pay to use the Lightning Lane for each ride individually. Prices can vary depending on the ride, park, and day.
As we mentioned, some rides are available through Genie+ and others are available through Individual Attraction Selection. But some changes on these ride lists are coming soon.
Disney has just announced that 3 rides which are normally available through Individual Attraction Selection will soon be available through the regular Genie+ service from tomorrow (February 25th) through August 7th.
Specifically, at EPCOT, Frozen Ever After will be available through the regular Genie+ service between February 25th and August 7th.
EDITOR’S UPDATE: Since this post was originally published, Disney has announced that Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure will also be available through the regular Disney Genie+ service from May 31 – August 7, 2022!
Over at Magic Kingdom, Space Mountain will also be available through the regular Genie+ throughout that time period. And at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway will also be available through the regular Genie+ for that period of time.
That means that, between February 25th and August 7th, if you want to skip the standby lines for these rides, you won’t need to pay for them separately through Individual Attraction Selection. Instead, they’ll simply be included in the regular Genie+ service ($15 per person per day) and you can select a return time for these rides through that.
We saw this same thing done back in December for select rides, ahead of the big New Year’s Eve holidays. It seems Disney may be doing this again in anticipation of the Spring Break and summer crowds headed to the parks.
Again, remember that this is just a limited-time change. We’ll keep an eye out for more updates!

I just spoke to a cast member. The Disney cast member said that this story was not true. Please cite your source.

Hey, something I haven’t been able to find out is which attractions are probably not going to be enjoyed by an all adult party such as Disney Junior play and dance, and turtle talk with crusher. I’m not such which other ones would be good to skip since I’m not going with kids and you’re the experts on all things Disney! 🙂

I’m really hoping this is extended into September! Hopefully by then Guardians and Tron will be open.

I was very disappointed in the Genie+ system. My family tried it on 2 separate occasions neither of which were happy or magical experiences. The first time was a learning curve which turned into an expensive lesson. The second time, we thought we would have a better experience but instead you are stuck on your phone constantly throughout the day trying to get the next ride. Most of the rides are gone by then time we were allowed to get the next “fastpass”. This system makes you stay at one park at a time or you end up just giving up on the whole thing.
If they are adding the paid rides to this system, I don’t know if that will help or not. I don’t see this making a difference–people will still be on their phones non stop. The paid rides were actually a better experience for us. We could just pay for the ones we wanted; could ride them right away.
We are Vacation Club members since 2002 and have been going to Disney World since it opened. I have to say this is the first time that I have been disappointed in the ride experience. It seems if you are going to pay extra for the Genie+ experience, they should at least offer 3 rides a day like they did when you were only allowed 3 Fast Passes a day. If you can get more, go for it!

Hi beautiful gorgeous! It’s actually on Disney’s Genie app. There are two stars by Space Mountain and at the bottom it states: “Between February 25, 2022 and August 7, 2022, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Frozen Ever After and Space Mountain will be included via Disney Genie+ service and will not be included as an individual Lightning Lane selection.”

Talk about making your trip more confusing and complicated. People in their 70s have enough trouble just trying to survive in Disney anymore. Sure takes the fun out of it. We have been coming since Disney opened.

Maggie everything you have just said is exactly how we feel and how our experiences have been ! We too our dvc members since 2014 and have been coming here for over 25 years . I can’t believe that the excuse of well it’s busy etc is the reason this isn’t working how it should . Yes we know it’s busy but Disney know exactly how many people are in the parks as we all have to book so they should have enough genie plus rides for everyone ! The internet alone is not up to scratch as we were continually being booted off and then after spending the majority of the day on your phone trying to snag rides that all of a sudden come up then disappear is not only frustrating but totally ruining any magical experience that we have already paid and invested a lot of money in. It breaks my heart that our beloved Disney has come to this . Bring back the fast passes everyone could book three and then 1 after at a time . The 1/2 hour magic time is a joke you are literally getting up to get in a line in the hope you can get on a ride and if your not on property I’d have thought you haven’t got a chance in hell of getting anything
What on Earth is happening . It certainly is not a brilliant system and I feel for the poor cast members who are having to deal with he kick back of this shameful nickel and diming.
Rob says
I can only imagine that this is Bob Chapek, Michael Colglazier, Rebecca Campbell, andJosh D’Amaro plan all a long. It would not surprise me that every ride will have to be through Genie+ in the near future. This way they can Nickel and Dime paying guest by charging them even more for each and every ride and attraction. What’s next, pay toilets?

So sad that Disney has taken this very negative path. What happened to all the Pixie Dust and magic. You can’t even recognize the Disney experience anymore. We won’t be going back til things return to Disney normal, so I guess we won’t be going back because I don’t see that happening. It is so hard to accept that this is how things are now. Too much time spent on the phone during a very expensive vacation ! We used to do all our planning ahead of time so we could just kick back and enjoy. Not any more! There is absolutely NOTHING relaxing or even enjoyable about a Disney vacation anymore! It is just one more frustrating, expensive and disappointing day at work.

I agree with all the comments made so far.

To be honest (as a Disney stock holder and a park goer), Disney has two routes to keep making a profit (yes their current profit is quite large and most executive leaderships packages are HEAVILY influenced by stock price); get more guests into the park or get more from each guest in the park. Should Disney add more capacity (rides and shows) of course, but that takes time (looks at how long Tron and Guardians have taken) and money (millions of dollars per ride). That being said the current model is not sustainable and Disney is potentially going to be placed on it’s back foot once Epic Universe opens up. Competition from Universal will force Disney to make changes, not saying if those changes will be good or bad.
