Did you know that a NEW theme park is coming to Orlando?
Yep, Universal is currently working on Epic Universe, which will be the third theme park at Universal Orlando Resort. The project was supposed to open up next year, but due to the global pandemic, is now supposed to open in 2025. There hasn’t been a ton of info about what exactly is going on with construction on the new park, but we just found out a little more about what stage Universal is at in the building process.
Universal has filed 83 permits for work on Epic Universe, according to the Orlando Business Journal. The permits, filed through Orange County, are for infrastructure work, like electrical, plumbing, mechanical, gas, fire systems, and general commercial permits.
Some of the work in the permits includes landscape and irrigation as well as installing new fire alarm systems in a data center. There is also work described as electrical work — including lighting receptacles and panel boards — and new heating, venting, and air-conditioning construction.
So, it sounds like Universal is working on the early stages of setting up the infrastructure of the park, which makes sense, as it’s not supposed to open for another 3 years.
The park is located on a 750-acre plot and Universal is planning on having shopping, restaurants, and hotels on the property. In the park, Epic Universe will have different lands, one of which will be Super Nintendo World, which is being built right now over at Universal Studios Hollywood. There is already a Super Nintendo World over in Universal Studios Japan.
We still don’t know much about planned attractions coming to the new theme park, but we’ll make sure to keep you updated as soon as we find out more, so stay tuned to DFB!
