Do you prefer to fly or drive to Disney World? Recent gas prices might have convinced some guests to check out those airplane tickets and compare the cost — sometimes flying can actually be cheaper, especially with the current trend of high prices per gallon!
If you do choose to drive, you also need to consider the cost of driving while you’re inside Disney World (not just the cost to get there in the first place). All of that driving could add up. So let’s check out current gas prices in Florida to help you make the best decision for your budget!
According to Spectrum News, Florida’s current average gasoline price is an even $4 per gallon. This is down from recent weeks; the price per gallon averaged $4.07 last Monday (April 11th). In the last week, the state and federal averages for gas prices have been falling.
The current average is an improvement from the average in mid-March 2022, when gas prices hit a record high average in Florida of $4.38 per gallon. The previous record was $4.11 per gallon (on July 16th, 2008). According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, $4.11 in 2008 is equivalent to about $5.25 in 2022.
This price is still far higher than the average in February 2022, which was $3.50 per gallon. Gas prices could see another spike in the near future.
To decide whether it’s worth it to drive around Disney World rather than using their free transportation (available if you’re staying at a Disney World hotel), it’s a good idea to check out the distance between your hotel and the parks, and then calculate the cost of gas. If you decide to fly instead (and then use free transportation in Disney World), remember that you will still need to get from the Orlando International Airport to your Disney World hotel! All services to get you between the airport and Disney World hotels are now paid.

$4.00 per gallon is still a great deal compared to the average SoCal gas price of $5.07 a gallon.
