MagicBands have become a go-to accessory for Disney Park guests since they debuted all the way back in 2013.
A MagicBand can do everything from acting as your Disney World park ticket, your primary source of payment at Disney shops and restaurants, your Disney World hotel room key, your key to accessing Lightning Lanes for rides through Disney Genie+, and more! But, last year Disney announced that a NEW MagicBand was coming into town — the MagicBand+ — that can do more than ever before and we found it in Disney World for the FIRST time today!
When Disney first announced the MagicBand+, they shared that it would become available in 2022, but they remained quiet on when exactly we could see them appear in the parks. So, we were pretty surprised to see them when we stopped by World of Disney in Disney Springs today! And, so were the rest of the guests it seemed because these were going FAST!
When we first arrived, the racks were cleared of the new bands and we saw Cast Members hauling boxes of them off the floor. We were able to ask around and a Cast Member confirmed with us that they were accidentally put out. So, only those who were at World of Disney early this morning were able to grab them.
Those who were able to pick one up were still able to purchase them — including us! So, here’s a FIRST LOOK at the MagicBand+!
It looks almost identical to a regular MagicBand (though more exclusive designs will be available in the future) and it even fits pretty similarly (there’s a strip you can take off to make it fit smaller wrists, just like existing MagicBands). That being said, we did think that the band was a lot bigger (and somewhat bulkier).
And, when we started to look at the packaging, we noticed a few NEW things we didn’t know about MagicBand+!
For starters, the MagicBand+ is RECHARGEABLE! Say whaaaat? The previous version of the MagicBand was designed to last for only a few years before it died, but it seems that you’ll be able to use this one over and over and over again without worrying about needing to purchase a new one 5 years later.
The box includes the USB cord for recharging, but you will need a box of your own to plug it into the wall.
There’s a lot to learn about the new MagicBand+ including tons of new ways to interact with the parks and you can get more details by scanning the QR code on the back!
Because the bands were put out early though, the site wasn’t quite ready just yet.
We also noticed that the side of the box says that the MagicBand+ “works with alexa.” Disney hasn’t shared many details about this, but it could mean that guests will be able to use the band to interact with the new “Hey Disney” devices coming to all the Disney World hotels sometime this year.
So what else can you do with MagicBand+? Well, in addition to everything a regular MagicBand can do, you’ll also be able to interact with things INSIDE the park. For example, you’ll be able to use MagicBand+ with the 50th Anniversary Character Statues in all four parks.
MagicBand+ will also let you become a bounty hunter in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, searching for virtual bounties. And, it will light up in sync with fireworks shows, including Disney Enchantment at Magic Kingdom and Harmonious at EPCOT!
We’ll be testing it out, so be sure to stay tuned!
MagicBand+ features gesture recognition too, which means your movements could enable “magical surprises.” And, according to Disney’s website, the MagicBand+ has customizable color-changing lights and haptic vibrations that “let you feel the magic with light vibrations that bring experiences to life.”

We had trouble pairing our new MagicBand+ with our existing tickets once we opened it up, so we took it over to Guest Relations. They shared with us that the bands are supposed to be released at a later date, so until then we won’t be able to use any of the features (or even use it to get into the parks).
The MagicBand+ costs $29.99 but, it’ll be a bit longer before they are widely available since they weren’t supposed to be released just yet. Of course, we’ll be sure to update you on when they are officially released, and be sure to stay tuned to see how it works!

This is a step in the wrong direction from an environmental perspective considering the increase in packaging and the included USB charger. The best idea would be to have an app for the Apple watch and eliminate the bands, but that wouldn’t generate revenue. I personally opt for a card because I don’t like wearing a band and a watch.

Wow! Congrats! I’m shocked about the price, in a great way! My nephew is the only one of us without an Apple Watch, so he still uses a MagicBand, and I was worried I’d have to spend $50 for something he will most likely bang up or lose. I’m not saying he has a pass to do any of that for $30, but it gives me peace of mind knowing it’s not the end of the wallet if he does.

On the one hand, I’m not ready to give up my cute custom regular band, I made a special skin for it and everything. On the other… 👀

Yes, we use the Disney plus bands for family vacations. Excited that they are rechargeable option. Disney please have a Donald Duck or Daisy Duck, they are my favorite characters!

I have a feeling the new bands will be too big and bulky for my 4 year old
