Getting your Annual Passholder discounts in Disney World is a little DIFFERENT these days.
Annual Passholders can generally get discounts of up to 20% on dining, merchandise, and certain activities. If you’re a Passholder, you may have been used to showing your physical Annual Passholder card to get those discounts while shopping in the parks, but things have CHANGED over the last year.
Annual Passholders are now required to show a form of identification along with the portion of the My Disney Experience app that shows they are an Annual Passholder (instead of their physical Passholder card) in order to get some of their discounts.
According to a Cast Member we spoke with, some individuals were sending screenshots and utilizing other people’s passes in order to take advantage of the discounts, which is why this new policy is being put in place.
To find your Annual Pass through the My Disney Experience app, tap the portion that shows 3 horizontal lines all the way at the bottom right of the screen.
You’ll then select Tickets and Passes…
…and find your Annual Pass with your name on it, the pass type, and the expiration date. That’s what you’ll need to show to get your discount.
As this new policy is implemented, you may see variations throughout the parks, so just keep that in mind. Be sure to come prepared with your My Disney Experience app ready at check-out so you can make your check-out process run smoothly!
If you’re paying the big bucks for an Annual Pass, you should do your best to get the most out of it, so don’t forget to ask about those discounts at merchandise and dining locations throughout Disney World. The worst they say is “no.” The best they say is “yes” and you can save some $$$!

Why can’t we get Annual Passholder tickets? My husband & I had the Annuals for 18 years & since the Covid issues they won’t let us get them! Because of that we aren’t visiting Disney that much as the park tickets & Genie Pass are extremely expensive!
Eric L Erickson says
This is absurd!!! Not only do a LOT of people NOT carry their cell phone everywhere, but some people don’t even have “smart phones”!!!
In addition to seemingly being prejudiced against Annual Passholder with regard to Room Rate Discounts, lately it seems that Disney is implementing new “regulations” with NO thought whatsoever as to the consequences!
Disney OBVIOUSLY has the fact that someone’s an Annual Passholder programmed into the Magic Band for park entry, so why can’t the just do the same thing for other purchases & require that a picture ID be supplied as well?
BK says
I’ve been a long time annual passholder, and while this is an inconvenience I definitely cannot blame Disney for this. This is just one more example of the few cheaters making life just a little more inconvenient for those of us who play by the rules. Too bad they don’t kick these people out of the parks as soon as the fraud is detected; that would probably put a pretty quick end to things.
Roz says
That’s ok with me ! Seems logical. But I have no worries with it because I Did Not Renew my AP. !
No longer worth the money it cost plus perks are getting smaller and smaller. Shame Shame Disney 😜
sandy says
This is a big fat problem, this means signing in constantly to try to pull all of this information up at every register. This will not work!!! its also going to cause big lines of people while someone tries to pull up this information at every single register. we will be complaining big about this one. we cant even get the app to work on our phone half the time.
Paige says
I’ve been doing that since the app started. And I’ve always shown my ID without them having to ask. I haven’t had a physical card in years. Less to carry and have to fumble around for. I also use the scan and pay wherever it’s available. The discount is automatically applied.
John Ferretti says
What if your phone is electronically challenged, or goes dead by the time you have to show “proof”. Is this that widespread that Disney is losing that much money on the program !!!
Russ A says
We have been asked to show ID over the last few years. It was never consistent though. Some asked and some didn’t. It seemed to depend on the Cast Member. This also included when we showed our DVC member card.
KellyO says
Actually, this requirement has been there for years. I always have to show my pass on the app and then my driver’s license. Although not all cast members are that thorough. The easiest thing to do is take a screen shot of your passholder page on the app, and a photo of your driver’s license. It’s so much quicker to just pull up your photos (no wifi needed) and show them the pics. Just FYI

Omg people make it sound like Disney is asking for a blood test. Carry your AP card with you, and just use it. I was just in Epcot on Wednesday and everything I bought or my Aunt bought, we showed our AP Card and Licrnses without issue.
Carole says
They were doing this in March when I was there for my birthday. Dishonest people ruin it for everyone unfortunately 🤷♀️
Carole says
They checked my annual pass when I got my pass holder magnet in March. This is in no way surprising as some people are dishonest and ruin it for everyone else 🤷♀️
Mandy says
I don’t think this is a lot to ask. They are GIVING you a DISCOUNT. You can either do what they ask for the discount or not do it and pay full price. It’s truly black and white. I do the scan and pay with my phone when and where I can, it automatically applies my discount. Easy Peezy!
Kathy says
Wonder when Disney is going to start selling smart phones? They might as well given how they are making them essential to your trip. Some of us don’t have smart phones.
Joe says
Again use the app. It slows you down, it’s not efficient, using the phone all day is just a big annoyance.
Arthur says
This is just an example of we can’t have nice things. People exploit what Disney has let people gotten by for years. I was suspired when I became and AP they didn’t double check my AP by taping card on a reader or anything. If you had the card they mostly just trusted you. Every where else requires more proof than just flashing an AP card. So this makes sense to me. Yes it sucks having to use the app, but you have to user it everywhere else at WDW anyway.(Genie+, DVC Discounts etc) At Disneyland they do not even have magic bands so you have no choice but to use your phones for tickets and lighting lanes/G+.
JP says
I always show my physical card and ID. Wonder what happens when you’re phone is dead? I’ve had my phone due several times while in a park . They should still accept your card and ID for the discount
cc says
So as an update this has been changed, Im guessing due to the mountain load of complaints. All you have to do is show your pass card, no questions asked. No license, no app. etc etc. This was all they were doing at both the parks and disneysprings as of last week. So, its easy peazy now as it should be.
Michelle D says
All last week, I showed my AP card and not the app to get the discounts…from restaurants to shops. Even the Disney Memories store where I picked up the AP Magnet didn’t want to see the app. They wanted to see the card.
FL-Dad says
We just went to Disney Springs yesterday to get our Orange Bird AP magnets. They wanted to see the actual card and photo ID, which IMHO is better because that’s a lot harder to fake.
Jude says
Castmembers are extremely inconsistent with identification procedures. I’ve had to provide my card and ID to buy a $19 pin, but simply asked and has the discount applied to two of us eating at the Crystal Palace!
More importantly, I think requiring the cell phone option is ridiculous. As stated by others, half the time I can’t even get the app to open! I think showing my ID is more than enough to prove that I am the actual passholder. They are going too far.
Tim says
I’m glad this is happening and don’t see it as a problem. I’m semi-retired and go all the time. I show my card and ID and have never noticed it being an issue. It’s not any different when you go to a store and if your asked to see your ID when charging things.
sue says
this article is from last year,,,, there were so many problems they reverted back to just showing your pass card thankfully, and sometimes drivers license.
teri dalco says
this is the way it has been for DVC since last year when we were there in February, especially since not everyone gets the DVC discounts anymore. Resales do not qualify for the perks. we did fine. You need your phone for genie etc, you’ll have it.
Doris says
JUST ANOTHER STUPID DISNEY RULE CHANGE TO PICK ON THEIR 2nd class THE ANNUAL PASSHOLDER!!!!
What an inconvenience you go anywhere to eat or buy merchandise and you use your Disney Visa you Disney Rewards Cards and your Annual Pass that is 3 forms of ID and they want us to show you our personal info on the Disney APP? No way JOSE enough is enough of this crap concentrate on illegal EBAY SCALPERS GOBBLING UP ALL POPCORN BUCKETS THAT IS ILLEGAL AND THEY GO THRU THE GATES WHERE SECURITY OFFICERS OFTEN STAND
Paige says
Being that the first comment is from May 2022, this is an old reused “article”.
I almost always have to show my ID when using my discount. Only exception has been if I bring it up on my iPhone wallet (have to go to the actual wallet app and click the “i” in the corner).
I’m have no problem with the rule. Tired of the cheaters and scammers out there.
DB says
I am ok with this for discounts. But, it seemed a little overboard when the CM checking us in at the AP lounge in Epcot a couple months ago wasn’t going to let my son in. He is 14 so doesn’t have a license or the app! Luckily I had his school ID in my wallet just in case it was needed at the airport. His AP is on my app and his card has his name on it. But, obviously that wasn’t enough to get in for some Chex mix and a pic with the Genie!
Don Curren says
I have never had a annual pass card and now no DVC card , I always go further down to Account and in there goto Profile and then do Membership and Passes as that shows ALL of the things I am FL resident, passholder, dvc member , D23 etc all in one place.
Paige says
Reading through these responses makes me laugh.
First world theme park problems.
